Did I ever tell you about the time the I held a hummingbird in my hand?I have. A living, breathing hummingbird. It flew in my back door and I thought it was once again a dragonfly. The big albatross like dragonflies come through the house often in the summer time.
When I went to retrieve it from the window ledge I saw it was an amazing little hummingbird and it just sat there while I picked it up and carried it outside. I could feel it's warmth in my hand but it had no weight. When I opened my hand up it just sat for half a second then it burst off into the sky. What a feeling that was. I am now one of the few people in the world who can say they have held a live hummingbird in their hands.
My beautiful glass hummingbird feeder broke this year. It was a gift from a friend. The glass was such a pretty color and it was shaped like a flower. I am now looking to find a new hummingbird feeder and I am checking out the selection at the Birdfeeders website.
If you want to attract hummingbirds or other birds to your property this is the place to look for information and products. I have never seen so many before.
If you are going to feed the birds you want to do it right. Did you know you can harm the hummingbirds if the feeder isn’t kept clean? I also learned that they don’t travel in flocks but are solitary travellers. They don’t all leave at once because like aircraft they would bump into each other. They can fly up to 500 miles non-stop in about 18-22 hours. The website has so much information. There is a lot to learn from them.
I don’t know about you but I am really impressed with these tenacious little birds and as I fill my new feeder I will do it with even more respect for them.
