I TOLD YOU SO

The following is a quote from a comment I made on Facebook on November 13th.
I have a leak in my car...did I mention I have a leak in my car...a leak, remember? I am sure I mentioned several times over the last couple months that I have a leak in my car...a leak...as in musty smell and my radio turning off and on all on its own...leaking...in my car....tons of moisture inside my windows...did I mention that? Right.
Just went to go to Costco....opened my car door in the driveway and found 2 inches of water in the car and it won't start....
Jeez...I am sure I mentioned that I must have a leak at some point over the last 2 months...didn't I?”

Honestly no one paid attention to my concerns. I could walk up to my car with the keys still in my hand and the radio would be playing loud and clear in the car. The radio was running directly off the battery and I couldn’t shut it off. Have you seen the Stephen King movie Christine? Ya. Like that.

Last weekend my rear windshield wiper started to run all on its own. Couldn’t shut it off and had to keep squirting washer fluid so it wasn’t scraping on a dry window. This made the demon possessed self playing radio seem like a minor detail.

Well my car is now fixed. Another $500.00 down the drain or should I say to help it drain. They removed my seats and carpets to dry everything out over 5 days.

Meanwhile they were looking for the leak. Turns out there are drainage channels for the sunroof and they were clogged with debris so the rain was pouring right into my car and playing havoc with the electrical system. The sunroof doesn’t leak at all…it was just the clogged drainage channels. Good to know people.

So tell me this. When you have a concern about your car or your appliances or anything like that does it take a major meltdown before it gets the attention it deserves or does the more mechanical person in your life attend to the issues right away?

Did I mention that I had a leak in my car?

THAR SHE BLOWS

Oh my gosh we had a wind storm last night. The wind kicked up yesterday and it really went crazy.

I live in an area with a lot of very tall cedar trees around and they are not known for hanging on to their branches in a storm. Not only the branches were down but all the dried bits too. They turned the streets brown.

I sent my son out the front door to take down the Welcome Autumn sign on my front door because it was banging and crashing against the door.

The inevitable happened and the power shut down around 2:00 am with a big bang. The streets became very quiet and dark. The wind kept right on blowing and 83,000 homes in the lower mainland and up the coast were without power.

There is a lot to be concerned about when the power goes out. How long before you have a furnace again. The fridge and freezer need to be kept closed. And the most important issue of all…..HOW IS LORI GOING TO HAVE HER MORNING CUP OF COFFEE. SERIOUSLY!!!!HOW?????

Lucky for me we have a gas stove. We had to ignite it with a lighter but we were cooking. I put on a kettle of water and put the coffee filter holder in place on the pot. In no time at all we had our hot morning coffee and all was right in my world.

I live close to where I work and there was no power there either. Although our phones were working we had no access to our computers. Can you believe that people who called into our company were actually angry with us because we couldn’t help them due to a power outage? I know!!!!

LUCKY FOR THEM I HAD ALREADY HAD MY MORNING CUP OF COFFEE.

TELEPATHY

Thought I would repost this one from about a year ago. I came across 2 different blog posts about dogs today, one without a happy outcome and starting thinking about our beautiful Maxine who was put down almost a year ago.
_______________________________________

We have noticed a bit of a phenomenon with our dog. Throughout the years when Friday would roll around our dog would get all antsy in the morning. She knew that on Fridays my BB Guy would be going to the cabin and she most likely would be going too. She would pace and she would follow him all over. Even before he would start to pack up she would start because she knew what day it was.

I remember my sister telling me about the time she had her daughter's dog for a week. On the day they were coming home the dog started to wait at the top of the stairs. My sister told him to go lay down because they were not expected until late that night. No way. He stood his ground and an hour or so later there they were in the driveway, coming home that morning instead of that night.

Well tonight we were sitting having dinner and the dog was quietly lying on the floor not really paying any attention to us when suddenly she jumped up and ran over to my BB Guy. I made her go back and lay down but it seemed so strange that she would just leap up and head over to him in the middle of our meal. I asked him if he was just thinking about her and he said he was just thinking that she had been laying down so nicely that he would save a piece of pork chop for her. Honestly, this is really kind of freaky.
Have you ever had this sort of thing happen?

POOK TOQUES

I came across a fun product that I thought I would share with you.

I am not being compensated for this in any way. I just really enjoyed their presentation that I saw at a Christmas show last year and asked them if I could share their video with you.

They have a great web site with more videos but I will go with the one that I saw originally.

They are called Pook Toques and they are so cute and fun and so are the demonstrators. You don’t just buy a Pook Toque you learn how to wear one. Have a look.

These guys say it best…..taken from their own website……..As can easily be guessed, yes, alcohol was involved. One night while Tony's mouth was running a little too freely from the talking juice, a friend picked up one of his traditional Canadian wool socks from the floor, threw it at Tony, and told him to "put a sock in it". Instead of in it, Tony put it on it, on his head. Wearing the sock around the apartment while consuming some more of Uncle Tom's magic cough syrup, Tony's creative juices got flowing. Somehow he was able to envision a toque made from these socks and thought it would be a good gag for the upcoming Christmas season. A visit to Walmart° for some socks, a local fabric shop for some fleece, and a few hours tutorial from his mother on the family sewing machine, soon Tony had a working prototype of the Pook Toque'. It took a few bags of socks wasted to get the right sizing of the cuts, but finally the toque came to its present form, and what a toque it is. The original demand Tony received from friends and relatives that found it to be a great toque got Tony to thinking there might be enough crazy people out there willing to wear it.

You can also download the instruction guides. Now how many hats do you know of that come with a guide on how to wear it. It is a different look every day. Stop in and visit their fun website and tell them Lori sent you.

I am in no way affiliated with this company nor am I receiving any compensation for this post. I just like to share fun things with you.

RIP EVELYN LAUDER

So sad to hear of the passing of Evelyn Lauder at age 75. You may not know the name but you know the symbol.

She helped created the pink ribbon campaign for breast cancer awareness in 1992.

breast-cancer-ribbon1

She was married to the son of Estee Lauder and worked in the family business for years. Someone with some clout to get recognition for the cause.

Evelyn Lauder

Sadly she died of non-genetic ovarian cancer. My Grand-niece has raised money for research for this and other “Women’s” cancers in the past. I have posted about her before here

Though Michelle’s fundraising group has a clever name of Walkers For Knockers they are very serious about drawing attention and dollars to combat these awful cancers.

So to Evelyn Lauder and to all those who fundraise, research, donate, treat and caretake I salute your efforts.

Rest In Peace Evelyn Lauder.

UGH!!! MALWARE!!! WARNING

Thank you so much to Kathy Reed who let me know that there was a problem with one of my posts.

I have had this happen before. Another blogger has added something to their site and it has suspicious elements in it causing a virus type malware warning when you clicked on my post.

Why does it show on my blog? Because this person is in my blog roll on my sidebar ergo guilt by association.

Now I am sure it is innocent. The last time this happened it was because the blogger had put a falling snow gadget on their site that had malware code in it. Shut her right down.

If any of you know The Mom Nerd you should email her and let her know that Google has flagged her blog and is sending out this warning. Advise her it is likely in a gadget or that she is following another blog that has malware.

You will have to remove the blog from your blog roll on your sidebar or your blog will also be flagged because your blog contains a link to the offending blog. Whew, that was a mouthful.

Anyway thanks again to Kathy for the heads up.

HOW HAS THE INTERNET CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

It wasn’t that long ago when the internet was thought to be a passing faze.

Sure it was an interesting idea but people would never give up their newspapers or library books would they? It wouldn’t matter to the general public would it?

The Today show in 1994 showed its hosts Katie Couric and Bryant Gumble as completely clueless about the internet and email addresses, not even knowing what the @ symbol was.

That was not even 20 years ago.

I used to read the newspaper every morning. Now I get my news online from various sources. I often bring up a topic to my husband while he is still reading the paper beside me that he has not got to yet. Even with the morning news on in the background I have more information online faster than the t.v. is showing especially with the commercial breaks.

                                         office equipment

How many of you go online when you or a family member is not well to seek out clues and solutions before you go to a doctor?

A stack of cookbooks? They may look impressive in your kitchen but you probably head to the computer with your list of ingredients and choose from hundreds of dishes with mouth watering photos.

Nordsieck-analyzer-sm

Decorating your home everyday or for holidays? Sure magazines have lots of ideas but the internet search you do will bring up the most creative ideas from around the world.

Where are you going on holiday? All your research can be done online along with reviews and even ticket bookings.

computer cartoon

Genealogy is one of the biggest topics online with people connecting to their family lines everywhere. It is an industry in itself now with the most amazing old documents available from anywhere in the world. This type of information is especially near and dear to me since I became a genealogy researcher. I never would have gotten as far as I have with my research without the internet.

Online shopping? Oh ya! Store hours and locations, restaurant menus, music, books, advice, lessons, trivia, social media….oh don’t even get me started on that …Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ and all the others. I-Phones and apps, digital cameras…….

digtal

Then there is blogging. What crazy wonderful thing is this blogging phenomenon?  Anyone can write a “newspaper” of sorts, even me, and people will read it? You must be joking! I never would have believed that one. Mind you there are still some people who have no idea what a blog is. I KNOW!!!!!

note paper

Do we spend too much time on the internet. Sometimes yes but we also used to spend too much time in front of the television just staring at it. At least on the computer I am interactive with what I am looking at. I am searching, commenting, thinking, doing while pursuing and enjoying the information.

THE GREAT POINSETTIA CHALLENGE AT THE GREENHOUSE DIARIES

poinsettia challenge button small

There is a wonderful blog out my way called The Greenhouse Diaries and the most wonderful host there Tamara.

Tamara and her family own many large greenhouses and supply many of the big stores with their yearly mums, poinsettias and other plants.

They also have the cutest little storefront where you can get really healthy plants, decorating items and antiques all in one stop.

Tamara and the management at Darvonda Nurseries are having a contest to get you in the decorating mood for Christmas.

The Great Poinsettia Decorating Challenge is running from now until the middle of December. They are always thinking at Darvonda. They are offering a $50.00 gift card to the Olive Garden to the winner but if you don’t have an Olive Garden near you they will offer the same amount to a restaurant near you.

As a fellow Canadian I really appreciate this thinking because most contests out there are only available in the USA. This one is available to everyone.

So get your decorating mojo working and join in with Tamara and the group at Darvonda.

Tell her Lori sent you. !
