Oh my gosh we had a wind storm last night. The wind kicked up yesterday and it really went crazy.
I live in an area with a lot of very tall cedar trees around and they are not known for hanging on to their branches in a storm. Not only the branches were down but all the dried bits too. They turned the streets brown.
I sent my son out the front door to take down the Welcome Autumn sign on my front door because it was banging and crashing against the door.
The inevitable happened and the power shut down around 2:00 am with a big bang. The streets became very quiet and dark. The wind kept right on blowing and 83,000 homes in the lower mainland and up the coast were without power.
There is a lot to be concerned about when the power goes out. How long before you have a furnace again. The fridge and freezer need to be kept closed. And the most important issue of all…..HOW IS LORI GOING TO HAVE HER MORNING CUP OF COFFEE. SERIOUSLY!!!!HOW?????
Lucky for me we have a gas stove. We had to ignite it with a lighter but we were cooking. I put on a kettle of water and put the coffee filter holder in place on the pot. In no time at all we had our hot morning coffee and all was right in my world.
I live close to where I work and there was no power there either. Although our phones were working we had no access to our computers. Can you believe that people who called into our company were actually angry with us because we couldn’t help them due to a power outage? I know!!!!
LUCKY FOR THEM I HAD ALREADY HAD MY MORNING CUP OF COFFEE.
it's all about the coffe isn't it!! I know I think the same thing when the power goes out, or we travel out of town, oh the disasters that could be averted if only there were more coffee!
ReplyDeleteNot much makes for a more restless night (for me anyway) than harsh winds trying to claw their way in my window!
ReplyDeleteWell - - - and the nightmare I've been repeating over and over and over tonight is right up there on that same level of annoying too!
Hello Lori~I'm b-a-c-k to makin' my visits (finally)! I just wanted to take a minute at this season of renewed hope and gratitude to personally thank you for your visits and kind words, especially with the loss of my kitty Angel. I wish I could convey to you how much your continued friendship means to me. You're always so generous to share a big part of your hearts passion through your wonderful posts. I look forward to each and every visit. I've no doubt there's more fun in store for us on this blogging journey.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving surrounded with family and friends in celebration of all life's blessings.
Sweet Wishes,
Sara
You don't realize how much you rely on electricity until you don't have it! I'm with you, I NEED my first cup of coffee. I've always used the side burner on my grill to boil water, but just last weekend my grill literally went up in flames... I'm hoping for a mild winter:@)
ReplyDeleteNothing like a good storm. Every once in a while old Mother Nature throws a temper trantrum and that's that. Storms are fascinating to watch, but of course can cause a lot of havoc. Diane
ReplyDeleteWe had a storm yesterday morning early around 4am. Didn't lose power this time but I laid there quietly listening to the thunder and could still hear my mothers voice whispering...Be still and quite, God is working!
ReplyDeleteI freaking hate when the power goes out!
ReplyDeleteIt's been so windy here lately that I'm convinced it will go out right in the middle of our Thanksgiving with half raw food.
Goodness. Things are serious when the coffee is endangered! ;^)
ReplyDeleteThat was one wicked storm, I am only glad that I have moved all of my plants to a friends house for the winter. Because.....on top of the wind crashing noises, we would have had pot crashing noises....and that would definitely keep me awake all night.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that your power was out, but glad to hear that you had that all important coffee.

It is such an eerie feeling to have no power and be in the dark! The longest we've ever been without it was 2 days. Thank goodness it was not winter! brrrr...
ReplyDeleteRe: your work situation- Aren't some people just the dumbest things to walk the earth? I can't imagine some bozos not understanding that without electricity, nothing much works! sheesh....
