TABLESCAPE THURSDAY

Joining Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday is the highlight of the week for many bloggers and you can see why. Amazing tables everywhere and I bet with fall upon us now you will see many great fall decorations on those tables.

I am using a tablescape from somebody else. Mrs. Gail Borden of Chicago has set a lovely table. Or at least one of her servants did.
It seems that Mrs. Borden is a chic round-the-world traveler and a much sought after member of Chicago's North Shore set. She says she enjoys entertaining at home.
"I love having friends in for dinner." And since her friends include artists, musicians, and literary figures, her dinners are always great fun. One of her thoughtful table touches is the serving of Camel cigarettes...
"My guests prefer Camels." she points out..........etc.

You can see her maid has the camera ready for taking a pic of the table for our meme. (I don't think it is a camera). I see lovely silver candle sticks. She probably paid full price at a chic store. No Ebay for this world traveler. Do you recognize the china pattern? Looks like it will be a three course meal. I wonder what they are having?

If you enlarge the picture by clicking on it you will see a list of names of other importantly chic women who also smoke Camels.

SHAME ON YOU, SHAME!

I am absolutely appalled that ANYONE is supporting Roman Polanski. Appalled. What are you thinking? The man gave alcohol and prescription drugs to a 13 year old girl. THIRTEEN. Yes I know I am yelling. How dare anyone say well yes it was rape but it wasn't rape-rape. There is no watering down of rape. Statutory or otherwise it is RAPE. (adding in here: the 13 year old girl was also sodomized) Oh my god what are these Hollywood people thinking? And all his supporters in France? Mon dieu! Imbéciles!

Do you ever watch Dateline NBC with Chris Hansen. They are arresting people for this very thing and we are all glad of it. We cheer and say yes get these pedophiles off the streets. We make people register as sex offenders. We send teachers to prison (rightfully so) for having sex with their students. Protect the children not the adult.

Oh by the way did you know that in 1980 Polanski had a sexual relationship with the then 15 year old Natassja Kinski? I believe Polanski would have been around 47 years old at that time. Yes he really learned that little girls were off limits didn't he. Pedophile. Shame on any of you who support this man. Shame.

HERE'S YOUR REMINDER - WRITERS CHALLENGE

What is one of the nicest things someone has done for you? Something big or something small it doesn't matter. Just tell us about how it moved you, how important it was, how it made you feel.

This challenge will end on October 12th which is Canadian Thanksgiving. I will put Mr. Linky up on the Sunday, October 11th. for you to sign in.

BLOGGING WITH INTEGRITY

BlogWithIntegrity.com
I have have signed on as a blogger with integrity. Now I know that having done so does not stop others from their plagiarizing our works because someone who would do that doesn't care what I join but there is more to it than just the theft of our works.
You should check it out for yourself. While you are at it check out what Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams had to say as she put me on to this. She provided a link as well for Debi Ward Kennedy's site. This woman has taken on a mountain and I sure hope she wins. As I said in my previous post we must not let this behavior go unhindered. We wouldn't allow someone to steal from our purse nor should we let this go.
Blogging with integrity also refers to how we comment on other blogs and the content of our posts. Treating others with respect. This is not from a censorship stance but one simply of integrity. It refers to our sponsors and product reviews too. When I post giveaways from my sponsor they are identified as such. When I give away something I have purchased or painted that is different.
At one time I was contacted by a man who wished to use some photos of my sister's garden. Although she and her husband had given me permission to use the photos on my site I had to ask them if it would be alright for this man to use them as well. That is how it should be done. Once the original agreement has changed then permission is needed again.
I hope you will sign up too and please always let someone know if you see their content anywhere other than their own site.

ADDENDUM: Here is another interesting site with great information on this issue.

http://www.socialsignal.com/blog/rob-cottingham/bookmark-devil-readers-this-content-is-stolen-fair-use-versus-outright-theft

I SMELL A RAT!

I have noticed something in blogland lately and I find it disturbing. I have seen it mentioned on Twitter as well as on individual blogs. It is the theft of our hard work and great minds.
People are copying, plagiarizing, our blog posts. Some are taking the entire posts pictures and all and posting them as their own. I don't mean the use of an online photos without permission (I do try very hard to get permission for photos I use and link back to sites where I find them) which isn't a good thing. I mean the theft of our work and creative ideas without permission is theft just like if we had a store or restaurant.

How about you? Have you had any of your blog posts stolen? How would you know? What would you do about it?

SANTA COLLECTION #31

This big fellow was a gift from my husband on my birthday one year. He stands almost 3 feet tall and is pretty heavy. Now I am only five feet tall myself so he seems huge to me.

YOU WRITE A WHAT?

How do you tell someone about your blog? What is your response to their look of confusion when they hear the word blog?
You know the scenario.
"I wrote about that on my blog."
"On your what?"
"My blog, my web page."
"What is it?"
"It is my personal web page, I write stuff there. I post pictures."
"Oh"
"Really it is a lot of fun. There are so many interesting blogs out there and I can connect to them from my blog and some people follow me on my blog and I follow them and we join in memes and...."
"Sounds kinda creepy."
"No it isn't creepy. There is a great community of people out there. Sometime we cook or decorate or remodel and refurbish. Sometimes we vent and sometimes we laugh."
"Well I gotta go now."
"You should check out my page. Here is the web address, let me write it down."
"Oh ya sure. Thanks."

At this point I am having trouble convincing myself to look at my blog. My voice kind of trails off and I am left wondering how people get through the day not knowing what a blog is. They probably don't Twitter either.

SUNDAY FAVORITES

Join Chari at Happy to Design for our Sunday Favorites. A chance to show something from the past to those who may have missed it.
Make sure you check out the earlier posts from those who participate.

What a beautiful morning. A perfect combination of having the bed to myself, cozy and warm and the birds singing, a sure sign of spring coming. I slept great and had planned on staying in bed longer (mainly because the coffee shop doesn't open until 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays) when the dog decided she had to pee and it would have to be now. When you are dealing with a 12 year old female dog you believe her when she says she has to go now.
I dragged a warm blanket out to the living room with me and tossed it onto the couch where unseen by me my eldest was sound asleep. We have a big hide-a-bed downstairs and a guest room with two more beds but he figured the living room would be the best place to sleep. Not to mention he has his own place where he can sleep undisturbed on his couch or floor or bed or kitchen counter for that matter.
Why do I look like the annoying one when I wake him up to move to the other room so I can watch the morning news? Jeesh. It's not like I threw cold water on his head or something. It was a warm soft blanket. No I am not harbouring bad feelings for having run over the hose end that he left out. It was completely innocent.
Did I mention that the birds were singing?

TULIPS OF THE NETHERLANDS

It is fall where I live and time to plant bulbs. Here is a bit of inspiration for you. I always am surprised in the spring when all these interesting flowers come popping up through the dirt. Oh ya, now I remember planting those. If you would like to see the pictures full screen click on the toggle switch at the top right of the viewer

Another tall skinny Santa. He reminds me of marshmallows. Unlike the other tall one that has elves climbing all over him this one has a definite bear theme.

FOODIE FRIDAY- SNAKE BITES

If this is Friday then it must be time to go and visit Designs by Gollum for Foodie Friday. One of the yummiest memes out there.

I seared up some chicken chunks the other night to make Rattlesnake Bites. Mmmm good and as usual with my cooking there is not so much a recipe as there is a method. Here we go.
Cut your boneless chicken into chunks. Toss in a plastic bag with a mixture of spices with the main flavor being a chili powder of some sort. The heat factor is decided by what kind of chili powder you use. In my house we like it spicy and hot.
I used a combination of regular chili powder, some hot chipotle, garlic, cumin, paprika and lots of black pepper. I also threw in some salt to taste. Heat your cast iron pan over high heat with a good vegetable or safflower oil and turn on the fan. Don't use a regular pan or you will probably ruin it. Add the chicken a bit at a time tossing and cooking through. Remove it as it is done and finish cooking the rest. At the end you can toss it all back in the pan to sizzle a bit while you squeeze some fresh lime juice over top of the chicken then toss it with some fresh chopped cilantro.
Now you have one dirty cast iron pan. Did you know the best way to clean your cast iron pan is with salt? You bet. Wipe out the excess oil and debris with a paper towel. Sprinkle generously with a coarse salt and rub with another paper towel. At some point you can add a bit of water but never add soap or you will ruin the seasoning of the iron pan. So just scrub until clean adding more salt if needed. See how some of the salt is now brown? It is absorbing all the food and oil debris. Rinse and dry your pan well.
Now this pan is ready to use but it could stand to have a bit of oil rubbed into its finish. Boy is this a heavy pan.

BABY'S BEYONCE BOOGIE

SLEEP-ELUSIVE-SLEEP

I didn't go to my coffee group this morning. That is unlike me. I am always there unless I am out of town. I will have to produce a note explaining my absence. The last one was written by my BB guy and I really don't want to share what he said was my reason for not being at coffee was. The man is just rude. Of course I was the one that shared it with the group. Lol.
I have had sleep trouble off and on for several years. I know a lot of it was hormonal but all that is behind me now. I don't know why it has flared up again so severely.

I go to bed about 10 pm every night. Usually I fall asleep pretty quickly. On a good night I will sleep for 3-4 hours and then get up to go to the bathroom. I turn on no lights so as not to disturb the production of melatonin/seratonin that our bodies make while we sleep. In fact I barely open my eyes and have yet to pee in the closet.

Back to bed I go and then it starts. Or stops. I don't know which it is but I can't get back to sleep. I roll over more times than a dog working for treats does. After about an hour of this (now 2 or 3 a.m.) I give up on my bed and head to the guest room. I like the air flow better in there but some nights that doesn't help so then it is off the the loveseat in front of the living room window. There I sometimes fall back to sleep sitting up sideways on the loveseat all scrunched up wrapped in a blanket.

Sometimes I heat up a heating pad in the microwave and use it on my lower back which is often twitchy. Now we are looking at 4 or 5 am. We get up at 6:00. I don't have to get up other than to go meet my coffee group but up I get most days. Then I go to coffee and can barely speak a full sentence. The simplest of words evade me. I try not to drive anywhere else on those days and i force myself to concentrate on the short drive home.

Well when my BB guy got up at 6:00 I was on the loveseat. I had been up at 4 and then at 5 tried my sitting sleep position and got in an hour. I gave up on the idea of coffee because I have some things I have to do later in the day and getting a bit more sleep was very important. I slept until 8:30 and I feel like...a new...bag of crap.
At least I can blame all my weight gain on the fact I don't sleep. They said so on the news and on many web sites.

Women Who Sleep Less, Eat Less...and Still Gain

The researchers looked at exercise habits to determine if they could account, in part, for the findings. But they didn't discover any differences in exercise levels or physical activity that would explain why the women who slept less weighed more.

Were the women who were getting less sleep also eating more?

The answer was no. In fact, the opposite was true.

"Prior studies have shown that after just a few days of sleep restriction, the hormones that control appetite cause people to become hungrier, so we thought that women who slept less might eat more," Patel says. "But, in fact, they ate less. That suggests that appetite and diet are not accounting for the weight gain in women who sleep less."

Now which one of you can write me a note for missing coffee group. I will take any and all notes with me in the morning.

IF YOU CAN READ THANK A TEACHER

I know these are not indicative of the intelligence of the majority but as a high school drop out I am stunned at the lack of ability to spell even the simplest of words. These photos are from dribbleglass.com

COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT

The most amazing thing happened today. I received an email from one of my sisters. I know that is amazing in itself but stick with me here. She sent me some photos that she received from her sister-in-law that were taken in the early 1960's.
My sister was on a trip with her husband and his mother from Ontario to Nova Scotia to visit her brother in law in the navy. Their trip took them through Quebec. They sat down in front of some statues and had their picture taken. She never thought anything of it again until this week, over 40 years later, when she was sent the picture in an email.Isn't she pretty? That is my big sister on the left and her dear mother in law on the right. Nothing unusual here is there? Until you look at the statues and read the inscription. I have written about these people immortalized in these monuments before. They are our 11th great grandparents, Louis Hebert and Marie Rollet.
The odd thing here is that we didn't know this until a couple of years ago when I discovered our connection and added them into our family tree.

I am so excited about this. I actually had shivers up my spine when I saw the old photo.

SANTA COLLECTION #25

Once again we have a penny stamp on the back for postage. 1924 is the year, stamped in Decatur. This was addressed to Miss Helen Sprague c/o C.H. Sprague, Clinton, Illinois.
It says: Hope to see you next Sunday out home, Aunt Cora.

THIS IS WAY WORSE THAN A COUGAR

So the guys came back from the cabin this evening. My BB guy called me from the road and asked if I wanted to go to dinner. I probably had my answer out of my mouth before he was finished asking. Oh yes.
Off we went to a local steak house. Prime rib was in order as I always have. So there was my BB guy and my youngest son. They had been with a large group of locals up at the cabin because they were attending a funeral service for a long time resident of the area. Although he had the same surname as us and his family was from the same area in Ontario originally there was no connection that I could find.
The service was held in the local Legion hall.

At some point the local guys were teasing our son with threats of SMOPS. Now this is worse than a cougar after my 22 years old. Not only did he have to worry about the SMOPs but also the SMOTs and the SMOCs.
Imagine my delight to find out that a SMOP is a Single Mother of Princeton, Or a SMOT Single Mother of Tulameen or even closer a SMOC Single Mother of Coalmont.
That is it! He is grounded.

SUNDAY FAVORITES

Chari @ Happy to Design is our host for Sunday Favorites. I understand this is supposed to save me time on a Sunday but for the life of me I seem to be on here just as much. You guys all had me at hello. Join Chari and the others to see what you have missed on their blogs.

I first posted this in April.

So how many of you out there have the exact same picture done on the exact same pony. Oh I know we live in different cities, even countries but I bet it looks like the same pony. Do you remember that day? I do. I was pretty sure my mother could never afford to buy the picture but I didn't care. I just wanted to sit on the pony. I wanted to feed it grass. I wanted to take him home to live in our backyard in the city. I remember my jacket was green.
I wanted the pony to be mine.

A LITTLE SATURDAY SILLINESS

I just saw this commercial and thought I would share it with you.

Just a reminder to get started on your Writing Challenge. October 12th., Canadian Thanksgiving, is the deadline.
I would like to hear about one of the nicest things someone has ever done for you. It doesn't have to be a donated kidney, although that is really something, but any act of kindness however small. As long as it meant something to you.
I will post a Mr. Linky by October 10th but in the mean time you can use the link on the sidebar to let me know you are joining in. I won't hold you to it, don't worry if you run out of time.I would just like an indication of how many will participate.
