This weekend is the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. We have a statutory holiday on the Monday. I always cook dinner on Sunday so there is a day to relax and eat leftovers. Now that is something I am truly thankful for.
We will have a traditional turkey dinner, stuffed with a bread stuffing. I don't eat it but just follow what my mom always did. Others seem to like it. There is always a large pitcher of gravy. The mashed potatoes will be buttery and smooth.
Normally we would have pumpkin pie. I buy mine at Costco except when I went today all the pies they had have a best before date of October 9th. I don't want to freeze one and then thaw it. The middle always cracks when you do that. I have opted for a mix of desserts. A pear tart, some Ghiardelli chocolate brownies, little chocolate hazelnut filled cookie straws. If I get time I will do something with some Gala apples and cranberries too.
The brussels sprouts that were in the stores were no good either. What is going on this year? We are looking at carrots glazed with honey and tarragon, a green and yellow bean mix and maybe some corn if I don't have enough beans.
I expect there will be 8 for sure for dinner and perhaps 10. Still waiting on a confirmation. I have to add another table. Although our dining table is a big pine one it seats only 6. I would rather join another table on and have lots of elbow room.
Don't forget the Writer's Challenge. Mr. Linky will be up on Saturday morning. I look forward to reading all of your stories. The theme is "one of the nicest things someone has ever done for you". I thought our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend would be the perfect time to launch this.
