SECURITY WARNING

Good morning to all my blog friends. I have a warning for all of you this morning. I first learned of this issue from the Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter this morning. 
There is a viral message going around purporting to be from LinkedIn, the social media site. 
"Starting this morning, Monday 9/27, at 10am GMT, cyber criminals sent spam email messages targeting the LinkedIn social media community.
Victims are emailed an alert link with a fictitious social media contact request. These messages accounted for as much as 24% of all spam sent within a 15-minute interval. Clicking the link, victims are taken to a web page that says "PLEASE WAITING.... 4 SECONDS" and redirects them to Google. During those four seconds, the victim's PC is infected with the ZeuS data theft malware by a drive-by download. ZeuS embeds itself in the victim's web browser and captures personal information, such as online banking credentials, and is widely used by criminals to pilfer commercial bank accounts."

ARE WE HAVING FUN YET? OH YES WE ARE.

We were at the cabin this weekend with 3 other couples and one teenager. (poor him) This is not our cabin but I love the shot. It was taken not too far from our place. 

Look at the worm holes in that piece of bark. Too weird. 
I was off on Friday and we headed out to the cabin for a party. No reason other then getting together with friends. 
We laughed non-stop the whole weekend. 
There was a ton of food as usual. Plenty of wine, beers and other beverages.

We also went down the river a ways. The water was ice cold but a few of our group did go in.

 Some really hard work (okay I swung the axe once and my wrist still hurts. The log was completely unharmed). 

These weekends are always too short but at our ages maybe that is all our livers can handle anyways. 

MIGRAINE NEWS

Anyone who has ever suffered from migraines knows the pain is almost more than you can stand. The burning, throbbing, knife like stabbing sends  you hiding into a darkened room to wait for the pain to subside.

This is a monkey brain not a human one. Just so you know.

The World Health Organization rates it as a leading cause of disability. I know that for more than 8 years I had headaches/migraines on a daily basis. My head wasn't always in that screaming stabbing pain mode but it burned and throbbed every day in various degrees. No treatments worked, not even the prescription ones until one day they just stopped when menopause kicked in. The hormones dropped and the headaches stopped.

Scientists have identified a genetic defect linked to migraines. They found a gene known as TRESK was directly linked to causing migraines in some patients. They found if it the gene does not work properly environmental factors can more easily trigger pain centres in the brain and cause a sever headache.
Scientists used DNA samples from families that had migraines in common to identify the defective gene.This will direct research to find a medication that will activate the gene and switch off the migraines. Migraines seem to depend on how excitable the nerves in a specific part of the brain are.

My husband looked at me with that knowing look when I just told him about the defective gene in the brain therory. He could have told them that years ago.

LADY MARMALADE

 Marmalade is not quite this color but I couldn't get the color right in the photo.

I love bitter marmalade on toast. I am the only one in the house who does. Good, more for me.

ONE WAY TO AVOID A HEART ATTACK

I read an article that says if you avoid the flu you may be staving off your first heart attack.

Researchers in the UK looked at 78,706 patients aged 40 and over in England and Wales.  Of the total 16,012 had had a heart attack and 8,472 of the patients had been vaccinated against the flu.

Early vaccination between September and November was linked to a 21 percent reduction in the rate of heart attacks. Later vaccination, after mid November was associated with a 12 percent reduction. 
It is thought that the related inflammation process from flu may be connected to heart attacks by affecting the coronary blood vessels and making them more likely to rupture and cause a heart attack. 
Now this has not been proven but something that has been proven is that washing your hands is one of the best ways to avoid the flu. 

Now let's all stay well this coming flu season.

WHO KNEW? THIS IS CRAZY

I was reading a paper at work today and I learned the most amazing thing.
Did you know that there are people who can close down the internet? Legitimately close it down? I know!!!!! Who knew????
In case of a major emergency there are 7 people in the world who are authorized to shut down the entire internet. Not just your connection but the actual internet. 
Okay I am not paranoid. This is true. I am not crazy, really. I am not walking around wearing a tinfoil hat.

These people have been entrusted with a secret code key which would allow them to shut down the internet and reboot it in the event of a disaster. 
There are two operational centers in the US, one on the west coast and one on the east coast. They update the code keys 4 times a year. 
If there was an attack on the Internet then 3 of the seven people who have these code keys would have to get to one of the operation centers to restore the system. If three of them can't get there then there are 7 backup people who would step in. 

Wow can you image....Oh crap .... I forgot my password.

I had mine done in 1989. I went to a coworkers home for the first one above. We had so much fun I decided to host a party for my friends. What a blast we had. The best part was that my sisters had their photos done too. 

As the hostess I had mine done last and had consumed a fair amount of wine before my turn came up. My eyes were red and I have a bit of an inebriated look about me. Lol. We had some fun though.

SUNDAY FAVORITES - HOW TO CLEAN A TOILET

How to clean a toilet

This was simply too much of a time saver not to share it with you

1. Put both lids of the toilet up
And add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water in the bowl.

2.. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close the lid.
You may need to stand on the lid.

4. The cat will self agitate and make ample suds.
Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this.

5. Flush the toilet three or four times.
This provides a 'power-wash' and rinse'.

6. Have someone open the front door of your home.
Be sure that there are no people between the bathroom and the front door.

7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift the lid.

8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom And run outside where he will dry himself off.

9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean.
