BARN HOUSE ANTIQUES SALE

IMG_0035Our 3oth anniversary getaway happened to fall on the same weekend as the Barn House Antique sale. I have always wanted to go but it has never worked out before. The timing this year was perfect and as you can see in my 2 previous posts we were very close to where the sale was being held.

My BB Guy likes antiques too so off we went Saturday morning driving from Portland to Battle Creek, Washington. It was about a half hour drive through the lovely countryside.

The sale is held on a farm and has many vendors who bring in their antiques for the sale. Let me tell you it was crowded. REALLY CROWDED. They had a lot of people helping direct traffic for parking. Great job guys. IMG_0034This barn was full to the brim with different vendors and shoppers. IMG_0038So much to see, not big enough elbows to spread out and get good pictures.IMG_0036I don’t know why I didn’t buy these. I guess it was because we had just got there. Silly me. IMG_0039My photos don’t do the displays justice. IMG_0040IMG_0041IMG_0042It always makes me sad to see photos for sale. I wonder about the family members who may not even know the photo exists and who would love to have a copy.IMG_0043Not everything was an antique but the country style was just what I like.IMG_0045I know I would have purchased off of this table too if I wasn’t feeling so claustrophobic.IMG_0048I got to know this fella really well while standing in line to pay for an old, black clock. The line wasn’t moving because some woman was chit-chatting away at the cash desk about whether or not she should come back later to pick something up or take it now. Whether she wanted to shop more or not. What she thought she might do with her purchases once she gets them home. Really? Lined up 2o deep in a hot barn and you are visiting. Let’s all learn our antique sale manners. Keep things moving.IMG_0049The many booths offered little bits of shade here and there. So much to see.IMG_0050IMG_0051  Who is that good looking guy in the mirror? I didn’t see my BB Guy until after I looked at the picture on here.IMG_0052IMG_0053IMG_0054This Ouzo bottle was about 18 inches tall.IMG_0055IMG_0056This window would have come home with me if it hadn’t been broken. It was so beautiful.IMG_0057  This one below made me think of Sue @ Sullivan and Murphy. I think she likes old typewriters. IMG_0059IMG_0062 We wandered throughout the displays and tried to cool down as much as possible in the shady spots. It would have been fun to stay for the music and the food they set up but our time was limited. I thoroughly enjoyed myself here and know that we just skimmed the surface of all the wonderful items on display. In the end I only bought an old black Big Ben clock and a really big badger hair paint brush. BB Guy ended up with nothing.

ANTIQUE LADDER

Remember my post on the Old School Market last month? What? You haven’t seen it?

Quick….go read it here…I’ll wait…………..

IMG_0001-1

As I went through the show introducing myself and asking permission to photograph the various booths I came across Colleens booth. When I gave her my card she said “I know your blog”. I was so surprised. I have never run into anyone who has read my blog all on their own.

Colleen’s blog is Vintage Home. You are gonna love her blog. Tell her I said hi. Anyway while I was browsing through her things a young woman spotted a ladder in the corner. I was busy buying some damask napkins at this point and hadn’t seen the ladder yet.

Oh crap I thought….I want that. I waited to see what she would do. She was sticking to it and she wondered aloud how much it cost. I was taking up valuable retail space in front of Colleens booth so I had to speak up or move. I asked loudly how much the ladder was. We were given a price and I asked her point blank if she was going to take it. She declined and that cute little chippy, paint spattered, green ladder came home with me.

My son carried it into the house for me when I got home and I said to him “just put it upstairs”. When I got in the house I saw he had leaned it up against our river rock fireplace and it looked good there, the green paint matching perfectly with some of the greenish river rock pieces. For now that is where it will stay. Good eye son.

OLD SCHOOL MARKET

I was out of the house early this morning to go to the Old School Market in a little town called Clayburn about a 45 minute drive from my house. This town was established in 1905.
IMG_0153
I found out about this market from the Birch & Bird ladies Rachel and Lily. It is held in an old school and it was packed full of great stuff and great people. Everyone was so gracious about letting me photograph their booths.
My first stop inside was at Jen’s Dream Decor to see her lovely fabric memory and magnet boards and clocks. Jen has an Etsy shop here.
IMG_0155-1IMG_0156-1IMG_0157
Jen said she would like to have a blog one day and I tried to encourage her to start one…maybe when Blogger is playing nice again.
Next stop was at Kevi’s booth Twig Home. She has such cool stuff.
IMG_0158IMG_0159-1
I just have to do the rake thing. Brilliant. Her booth was so crowded I could only get these two shots and even that took some time. Love the paper wreath.
Moving down the row I came to Birch and Bird and their interesting pieces.

Ha, ha, I like this one. Too funny and true.

Who is next on our tour? Stephanie Mason from What Wood You Say that’s who. Now she doesn’t have a web site either but she had some great painted pieces with a black & white theme.

Now here is a great idea. Trove is a company owned by Jessica MacDonald that rents vintage pieces for thing like photo shoots and events. Rentals??? I know. Have a look and make sure to check out her site for some very interesting wedding ideas.

I really wanted to buy those clocks but that is when I found out that they only rent the items for events and photo shoots.

Tracey @ Raggy Girl Vintage had a tableful of goodies. I could see more than one person wanting the cushions. I have more she says, I have more.

Last but not least there was Colleen from Vintage Home. Hi Colleen..waving my hands now…When I gave my card to Colleen and asked permission to take photos of her booth she said that she had actually been to my blog before. I bought a couple things from her. First of all I bought some damask napkins. You can barely see them on the table below.

IMG_0188
Along with the napkins I also bought the green ladder below. My son leaned it up against the river rock fireplace when he carried it upstairs for me and it looks awesome there with some of the river rocks being almost the exact same shade of green and a perfect height. IMG_0188-1
IMG_0186-1IMG_0189
These were not the only booths at the show. There were many more with jewellery and other things but I was there for the vintage pieces.
It was so nice to meet the ladies and now to go and see their blogs. Now if only the followers gadgets were working I could sign up.
