THE SUM OF OUR PARTS

Have you ever heard of the exhibits showing the human body peeled down to its basic components? The ones where the skin is removed showing the sinew, the tissue, the muscles, the nervous system. 
I have never seen them in person though they have visited our area. 

In Manitoba a human rights lawyer has requested the courts seize the exhibition to stop it from leaving until the provenance can be proven. He feels the bodies may be those of political prisoners from China and that they were not obtained with consent. 
The exhibit was already banned from Seattle because of the concerns over how these bodies were obtained.
What do you think? Would you go and see an exhibit like this one? I find it fascinating and very educational but the thought that the bodies were not obtained with consent opens up such a huge can of worms. It would seem to me that this would open up the market of bodies from illegal sources.  

WHO KNEW? THIS IS CRAZY

I was reading a paper at work today and I learned the most amazing thing.
Did you know that there are people who can close down the internet? Legitimately close it down? I know!!!!! Who knew????
In case of a major emergency there are 7 people in the world who are authorized to shut down the entire internet. Not just your connection but the actual internet. 
Okay I am not paranoid. This is true. I am not crazy, really. I am not walking around wearing a tinfoil hat.

These people have been entrusted with a secret code key which would allow them to shut down the internet and reboot it in the event of a disaster. 
There are two operational centers in the US, one on the west coast and one on the east coast. They update the code keys 4 times a year. 
If there was an attack on the Internet then 3 of the seven people who have these code keys would have to get to one of the operation centers to restore the system. If three of them can't get there then there are 7 backup people who would step in.

HEAR YE, HEAR YE, READ ALL ABOUT IT

We are all so computer involved now. It is such a part of our regular life. We get our news online, our information for where to eat, what is going on in our neighborhoods all online.
When we need a job or need to hire someone. Yup, to the computer.
I get regular updates of my small town local paper on Twitter along with my provincial newscast updates, Canadian news and CNN.
We only get the daily newspaper because my husband likes to read it before he goes to work.
Now I hear that Canwest Global Communications Corp. has sought bankruptcy protection.
They publish 12 daily newspapers. This includes the Vancouver Sun which has been around as long as I can remember. They are trying to sheild themselves from their creditors until they can  refinance some debt and restructure their operations.
This is the biggest media company in Canada.
Not only do they supply our main newspaper each day but Global is one of the main television news programs with morning, noon, dinner time and eleven o'clock new program every day.
So now what? Have we caused the demise of the printed word by embracing the world wide web?
Do you read the daily newspaper? What will we line the bird cages with if they go under?

SHAME ON YOU, SHAME!

I am absolutely appalled that ANYONE is supporting Roman Polanski. Appalled. What are you thinking? The man gave alcohol and prescription drugs to a 13 year old girl. THIRTEEN. Yes I know I am yelling. How dare anyone say well yes it was rape but it wasn't rape-rape. There is no watering down of rape. Statutory or otherwise it is RAPE. (adding in here: the 13 year old girl was also sodomized) Oh my god what are these Hollywood people thinking? And all his supporters in France? Mon dieu! Imbéciles!

                     

Do you ever watch Dateline NBC with Chris Hansen. They are arresting people for this very thing and we are all glad of it. We cheer and say yes get these pedophiles off the streets. We make people register as sex offenders. We send teachers to prison (rightfully so) for having sex with their students. Protect the children not the adult.

 Oh by the way did you know that in 1980 Polanski had a sexual relationship with the then 15 year old Natassja Kinski? I believe Polanski would have been around 47 years old at that time. Yes he really learned that little girls were off limits didn't he. Pedophile. Shame on any of you who support this man. Shame.
