NEW OCCUPANTS IN AN OLD HOUSE

This birdhouse used to sit to the side of our porch in the old house. Birds used it most years to nest in. They were used to us going in and out of the front door and they were far enough away that they were not too concerned.

 
Now it is on my front step, up against the house right at the front door. We came out the other day to a big mess on the porch of garden debris and pieces of raffia.

 
The old birds nests have been turfed out the hole on to the ground and a new family has moved in. They are not very happy with me using the front door and were really concerned this morning as I watered some plants out there.
I feel bad for them but I can't move the bird house as it is too big and also needs to be sheltered so it doesn't rot any further.

 

I want to arrange some nice plants around it but I don’t want to distress them. I know the plants would give them more privacy and a more natural habitat but every time I water they will again freak out. What to do, what to do?

MOUNTAIN MAGIC

Just sharing some beautiful scenery not far from our cabin. My BB Guy was up there snowmobiling. The vistas take your breath away.

Make sure you are wearing your long underwear because baby it’s cold out there.

I think we may need some more wood. The river is not frozen over though.

Disney Ending?

Who doesn’t live a Disney ending to life? Happy, happy, joy, joy.

Well I can imagine what it says about me when I burst out laughing this morning when they announced on the news that Happy Feet, the  penguin that was found so far off track in New Zealand and rehabilitated, is no longer showing up on their tracking device and they were not sure what happened to him.

I know, I know, it is very sad. They nursed him back to health after removing kilos of sand from his stomach. He ate it thinking it was snow. The poor little penguin was near death. Every one loved Happy Feet and were so excited for his release. There was talk of a movie being made. Who do you think should play Happy Feet in the movie? What about his love interest?

I am sorry but that just cracked me up. What do YOU think happened to him? 

Well maybe the tracker that they super glued to him just fell off. It was supposed to come of naturally when he moults but maybe the glue let go. It could only read when Happy Feet comes out of the water so if it fell off there would no longer be a signal.

Ya that’s it. It just fell off. Happy Feet is lolling (click here to see my post on lolling) on a beach somewhere eating krill and little fishies. You can see where the transmitter last read on the map. Keep an eye out for him.

I know I will get hate mail now. The world is so in love with Happy Feet and they are all cheering him on and posting positive thoughts for the little guy.

I should put in something deep and profound here about the circle of life but all that comes to mind is Sh#t happens.

METAMORPHOSIS AT THE RIVERS EDGE

We were quite surprised to find these guys at the side of the river in a little channel. 

First we saw a few. 

 

Then we noticed an area where there were a lot. 

 On closer inspection we saw they were piling up about an inch thick. It was amazing. 

 A few had their little legs but most were still not at that point.  Soon there will be a bunch of little frogs in the forest edge.

PINK SKY AT NIGHT

This was the sky at our cabin one evening in July. Some of the colour comes from the fact that there were forest fires burning and it colours the atmosphere for hundreds of miles around. 

I HAVE A SECRET

I have a secret. I can't tell you about it but I am very busy this week. I can't say what it is because someone may read my blog and then it wouldn't be a secret any more. I will be able to share it with you guys next week. Don't get too excited. It isn't spectacular, well not for you at least but I know someone who will be very excited here. 

If I have not been visiting you this is why. I haven't been posting either. Gotta go. Lots to do. Places to go, people to see.

MOTHRA & FRIEND

Now I know you southerners have gigantic bugs to deal with and these guys are small potatoes in comparison but they are big for us.

First we have Mothra on my front door.

She was absolutely beautiful.

Compared to my middle finger (no insult intended, just the longest one) she is quite big.

While I was uploading the Mothra photos this guy came scooting in my patio door and went straight to my front window. If I don't get them out before they get into my tall stairway they die up on the ledge.
