We were quite surprised to find these guys at the side of the river in a little channel.
First we saw a few.
Then we noticed an area where there were a lot.
On closer inspection we saw they were piling up about an inch thick. It was amazing.
A few had their little legs but most were still not at that point. Soon there will be a bunch of little frogs in the forest edge.
I am linking with Metamorphosis Monday. Hop on over and see what is happening over there. Ha, ha... I said "hop on" over...do you get the pun? Oh I crack myself up.
Oh, that is AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it when I stumble across really cool sciency things like that!
Hmmmmm - - - I wonder if those tadpoles will stay tadpoles through the winter? Hardly seems they have time to mature enough between now and really cold Canadian air - - -
Most tadpoles hatch out in the spring. But different species do different things, and cold water slows metamorphosis, so maybe they will remain in that state until spring?
This is a true metamorphosis! How fund to be able to see this. And, what a beautiful spot...lucky you.(-:
ReplyDeleteOh I caught the "hop on over" part right away! But I guess that's because our great minds are on the same wave length. oh dear....
ReplyDeleteI'm not too sure about seeing little creatures like that, Lori. I don't even like the end result of them- froggies! eewww croak croak...
