A RE-POST FROM LAST YEAR
One of my coffee buddies and I were talking about dreams this morning. She had a dream that she was driving in her car and two people crossed in front of her car. One reached right in the front and touched the dashboard. Only then did she realize that her car had no windshield. We discussed the many possibilities that this could symbolize. We concluded that she didn't have a protective shield up. Her guard was down.
I find it strange that in 28 years without my mom I have never seen her in a dream. Twice I have dreamed that she was on the phone but I have awoken both times before talking with her.
As a child I often dreamed that I was flying through the air. It was like swimming actually. Arms pulling me around the sky like strokes in a pool.
As an adult I have had nightmares once in a while. My BB guy has had to wake me up a couple of times when I am making very strange sounds in my sleep. It turns out I was trying to scream but nothing was coming out.
I have struggled with lack of sleep for a while now. What is really harmful about that is that I don't dream then and that makes your brain act very strange after a few days. It isn't healthy. When I take melatonin for a couple weeks to reset my sleep patterns my dreams are always about current things going on in my life. Usually they are specific to that day's events. Otherwise, when I am not taking melatonin my dreams are random.
How about you? Do you have nightmares? Do you dream in color? Do you fly?
no flying here. I have to watch something light-hearted or funny before I go to bed as this will affect my dreams.
ReplyDeleteI have never dreamed directly about my mother...she's always in another room, at the grocery store...something. I wonder why that is, it is something I would love to happen but perhaps it is another thing I just could not handle. I lost a son years ago and he has been in my dreams only twice but it was very soothing and healing to me. Same with my dad. It's all so very interesting isn't it?
I didn't have nightmares as a child, at least I don't remember them. But I have experienced a few lately, and I DON'T like them!
ReplyDeleteAwful, and nasty, and very worrisome. I feel for you. Lets hope that we can all get our sleep patterns back to normal, and soon.
I did try Melatonin, but it doesn't work, I have also tried Valarian, and it doesn't work. Hmmmmm maybe a good shot of vodka at night?
Jen
I don't know if you are aware but melatonin is something that need to build up over a period of days and doesn't work the first couple of nights. It is just to readjust your patterns of sleep and not a sleeping pill so to speak.
ReplyDeleteI had recurrent dreams of flying when I was a kid too. I loved dreaming like that.
ReplyDeleteFor a long while after my mom died I dreamed that she was alive but sick. There was so much I wanted to tell her, mostly about what an A-Hole my stepdad turned out to be. (I reckon she knew.)
I've been sleepless for two nights now [Argh!]and I read this entire post with a Very Strange Brain indeed.
I dream about houses with lots of rooms that don't really make sense. I have prayed to dream about my mother and never have in over 20 years.
ReplyDeleteOh Lori, thanks for the info. I had no idea, and probably gave it up a little too soon.
ReplyDeleteNow as for the vodka......
Jen
I have vivid dreams almost every night. Some I remember, most I don't. We lost our oldest daughter 4 1/2 years ago and I've dreamed about her 2 or 3 times. It's actually been very comforting.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I once dreamed I was showering in a corner phone booth with Kid Rock...
