Well this is a little early but some of this information will help you before the New Years parties.
Besides the obvious way not to be hungover...not drinking, here are some other things to try.
In China they drink strong green tea or water with lemon or vinegar.
Germans eat pickled herring or rollmops. This is refered to as katerfruhstuck or hangover breakfast.
Americans will make a cocktail of tomato juice, Worscestershire sauce, black pepper and a raw egg yolk. You can add a little hair of the dog if you know what I mean and no I am not literal here. Be cautious with raw egg. Swallow this down very quickly. If it stays down I would be surprised.
In the Netherlands they feel a couple of cold beers are the sure cure. Or are they just starting over?
Polish remedies include sour things such as soured milk that has been left out for a couple days or very vinegary pickles. Because they just don't think your stomach is sour enough after drinking lime margaritas all night.
Vuelva al la vida is a Mexican seafood salad of shellfish mixed with tomato, onion, lime and cilantro just like a fish salsa. In english this means "return to life".
Russians prefer to head to the sauna and whip themselves vigorously with birch branches while sweating out the toxins.
In Italy coffee is the key to getting through the hangover. I would think it would have to be delicious strong Italian coffee best drank right there in Greve. Japan cures what ails them with extremely salty pickled plums sometimes taken with green tea. This is known as the "futsuka yoi" or "two days drunk". Other cures are a miso soup with freshwater clams and fresh or dried persimmons.
Saving the best for last we have the Romanian cure which is also popular in Mexico, Turkey and many other countries. My brother in law is Romanian but you can be sure he has never tried this cure. If anything I think it would cure you from ever drinking again. Here they eat a tripe soup that is boiled in a greasy, salty soup with cream, root vegetables, garlic and vinegar.
Well if you survive the hangover the cure may kill you. Take care and Happy New Year to all of my bloggy friends. All the best in 2010.
The people in the Netherlands are probably the only ones who get any relief---the rest are just puinishing themselves. :) Happy and healthy (and pain free) New Year's! :)
ReplyDeleteWell, that just locked in my answer...I am not drinking, especially if I have to use one of these cures!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
I've never ever had a hangover because I always to the "obvious" thing you mentioned!
ReplyDelete:-)
That was "do" not "to" the obvious - - -
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Lori!
ReplyDeleteGreat post and luckily I would be needing any of those cures. I have to work tonight. Hope you and your family are able to bring in the New Year in a big way!
Hugs,
Karen
I have the distinct feeling that the midnight fireworks will be waking us up, not a hangover.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you and yours.
Jen
I think I like the Mexican cure the most. I hope the new year brings you much happiness, love, health , peace and prosperity...Christine
ReplyDeleteWell, gee. This is one of the first times I've been thrilled to be allergic to alcohol! Wow, some of those cures don't seem to make the effort worth it! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you!!!
ReplyDeleteThat German Katerfruehstueck actually works. However it certainly helps if you like seafood!
Hugs,
Tam
So what do we Canadians do? I'm not sure anything works but a good old fashion HAMBURGER, like a White Spot triple O... one of Randy's favourites. Of course Ontario doesn't have any White Spot's... just lots of white stuff.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Lori, all the best.

ReplyDeleteHappy New Year....glad I found your blog....
ReplyDeleteHappy new year to you too Lori and yes I do have a headache. Fantastic night, plenty margaritas, heaps of laughs, 2am swimming and watching the sun come up on the new year and new decade. Fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm on my 2nd glass of champagne and about ready for my bubble tub. I'll be in bed, sound asleep by 9pm...LOL!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Lori!!
Happy New Year Girl Friend. I'm not there yet....it's only 10:51. I'll let you know tomorrow how my head shakes out...
ReplyDeleteReading these hangover cures certainly make me think twice about drinking! YUK! Unfortunately, cedar fever has reared it's ugly head early this year, I think we'll be toasting the New Year with benadryl and hot tea lol. Have a great New Year! Kathy
ReplyDeleteIn England, from what I've seen, they figure the cure for hangover is to drink some more. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2010!

I'm good, I dont need to cures, I only had one very small drink to toast the New Year.. But my brother on the other hand....swears by chocolate milk as his cure...ewe yuk..lol Happy New Year Lori, and all your followers :o)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a young lad and enjoyed an alcoholic beverage or seven, I had a most excellent hang over cure. It worked everytime. As I was slippin' into my jeans and shirt,I would have a large glass of pure orange juice pulp included. . .. after putting on shoes and coat if needed, another large glass of orange juice. . .. then off for a night of fun and dancing. ..
ReplyDeleteWhen I got home, 2 more glasses of pure orange juice with pulp. . . and then off to the bedroom. . . . [deleted due to adult activity]. . . . . . . woke up next morning. . . no hangover.
Every time a person goes to have a pisser in thebathroom when drinking, they lose all the vitamins and proteins in their body systems. .. alcohol does that to you. .. .
With the orange juice drunk before hand, you maintain some of the proteins and vitamins. . . and the two glasses when you get home, satisfies the bodies minimium requirements.
No hangover. ...
