When we renovated the kitchen several years ago we replaced the dishwasher and microwave but kept the fridge and stove because they were fine.
A bit before that we had to get a new washer and dryer when they quit. Now the bleach/soap/softener dispenser only dispenses some of the time and the handle broke off of the dryer.
Well we replaced the fridge finally a couple years ago. So far so good.(shhh don't say anything)
This past November we replaced the stove that had many issues.
The handle on the microwave broke off so now we pull it open by digging our fingers up under the bottom of the door and pulling.
Now don't get me wrong. Those appliances had held up a long time. It is just that when it rains it pours. Oh ya, forgot to mention we have a leaky roof and will have to replace it this spring when the weather permits...and the bank account.
Wow...I hope this isn't contagious! Do you have warranties on any of these appliances??

Oh man I feel your pain. We just put a new roof on and we luckily found seconds on a fridge & stove from a friend who had an appliance shop. Thank goodness he cleans them thoroughly. We need a new micro but you can get those for a steal new so I'm not worried about that. They really get you with the "must have" items don't they? Argh!

You know, I am CONVINCED that modern appliances are made with TERRIBLE quality parts. I have had so much problem with my many new appliances. They just don't stand up.
ReplyDeleteNow, I was at Potters but I don't let them SEE that I'm taking pictures. Flash OFF. Camera in pocket as inconspicuous as possible. There is an art to espionage :)
Bad things come in threes, Mom use to say. I think you have exceeded your limit.
ReplyDeleteJane: No warranties left. Of course.
ReplyDeleteTammy: I need to get a deal guy too.
Tamara: I was told by a repair guy that the products are made all together and then they put different product names on them.
Gail: I was never very good at math maybe that is why.
Oh good grief Lucy,it sounds like a conspiracy, but it probably is just the law of appliances. When one goes, they all follow. I hate to think of you standing there washing dishes in the sink after Christmas dinner. It's just plain wrong.

We're going through the SAME THING here. Our 'fridge is starting to go, the washer and dryer are getting cranky, and the microwave is making weird sounds when we use it. All came with the house when we bought it over 4 years ago. We replaced the stove and dishwasher when we moved in, but now the dishwasher is refusing to wash. Oh, and we've got a leak in the garage ceiling (something upstairs bathroom-oriented).
ReplyDeleteIt must be going around. I hope you don't lose any more appliances!
Elizabeth: It is crazy isn’t it? I even forgot to mention that I have already had both the washer and the dryer repaired once. Those plumbing leaks are the worst. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteOh, I know!! Everything breaks at once! Gr.
ReplyDeleteI guess appliances are just like light bulbs. When one starts to go they all follow. This is terrible, especially at Christmas.

lori...what house sounds just like mine right now...I have a ton of damage from this last big snow strom and poor Len been out trying to tear off broken gutters and cut off tree limps...right now if another thing breaks in my house I think I will break down for sure and right at Christmas when the kids take all my money ha ha!! May you have a great weekend my dear friend...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
ReplyDeleteI know this routine....they are all designed to break down at the same time. Two summers ago every appliance in my house went down within months of each others....they must have caught some dreaded disease...it was passed from coil to coil...upstairs and downstairs...kerching...kerching...kerching. I FEEL your pain
ReplyDeleteI've bee coveting the front loading washers. I figure that with my limited experience (Washing sleeping bags and large blankets) over the years at the local pay laundry. I could save a bundle of money by throwing in a small brightly colored rag... and watching it go round and round.. I am hypnotized.
ReplyDeleteThen, to my dismay, just last evening I read an article how these washers (VERY expensive) all smell like rot and dead beasts.. this was a professional piece and not just a few unhappy customers. Seems their very nature of sealing gaskets and so forth harbour mold and slime.
I am heartbroken.. another dream gone as I call smell a gnats behind a mile away.
What I meant to say was that I love watching these machines and would no longer need to pay for cable TV.
ReplyDeleteWhen it rains, it pours.... Dang, but the quality of appliances just isn't what it used to be. I will never buy an electronic, computerized appliance again, let me tell you!
ReplyDeleteI have a big $$ washer that won't let me interrupt a cycle to add more time or change a setting. Give me the old dial that lets me do what I want-(see Housewife Savant's blog header). I bought the extended warranty, but it never does the bad stuff when the repairman is there. But once he leaves, it's clanging and acting up once again! I even recorded the noises, but was told the repair guy has to witness it in person. AARRGGG....What's a girl to do?
So, I feel your pain, Lucy...
Good luck w/your appliance shopping. Buy simple!
hugs, Ethel
