A man waited at the end of the parking lot row, revving his engine, for a car to finally leave the front of the restaurant. He then raced forward across the parking lot into the front of the restaurant and almost out the back of the building.
He didn't know anyone in there. He didn't know the owners. He had no grudge against anyone in there. He says he was not suicidal. He just did it.
He was found not criminally responsible for his actions due to a mental disorder.
Well guess what. He is now getting out of the psychiatric hospital. The following is from our local news station Global B.C.
Earlier this year, Irving was found not criminally responsible of two counts of criminal negligence causing death and seven counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm due to mental disorder.
Two psychiatrists testified during his trial that Irving was in a state of delirium caused by alcohol withdrawal and didn't know what he was doing when he slammed his truck into the Halu Sushi restaurant. When someone is found not criminally responsible it is up to the review board to determine their fate.
Irving will be released under the supervision of the director of adult forensic psychiatric services, he has to live where instructed by the director and report to a forensic psychiatric outpatient clinic at least once a week for monitoring, the review board stated.
He is banned from drinking alcohol and using weapons.
The review board didn't restrict Irving's ability to drive.
It is bad enough he is getting out but the kicker is that the psychiatrist was against letting him go. The British Columbia Review Board made the decision this week to release Irving, going against recommendations of a B.C. psychiatrist who recommended that Irving stay in hospital.
Now what just happened in Washington State with the man Huckabee released? Four dead? What is wrong with these boards? Ask the psychiatrist his opinion and then do what you want anyways? Let me make this clear that this is not about forgiveness. This is about going against the professional opinion of a psychiatrist and allowing him too many freedoms. He is not well. We are not safe.
The family of Maija Liisa Corbett is upset by this turn of events and Hyeshim Oh's must be so distraught with this news. I know I am.
Some things that are done boggle the mind. I don't blame you for being upset.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible Lori, I have not a clue why they would release this person back into public and he should stay away from fire arms when he used a truck to kill them ?? unreal...May you have a great weekend my friend...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
ReplyDeletethis is just trouble waiting to happen..again. The mess here, with the four police officers,is so unbelievable now that all the 'truth' about this jerk and his followers is coming out. It makes me sick...just sick.
ReplyDeleteOh Lori I am so sorry that you knew this young lady. This was just a stunning horrible event and I am aghast that once again someone like this is being released. When are they going to learn? Stupid question the same mistakes keep happening. Why is he allowed any chance to live a free human?
ReplyDeleteMan's Law and God's Law, if we would just stick to God's Law when we write Man's Law...what a wonderful world this would be.
ReplyDeleteSome places, okay a lot of places, the Bible is said to be open for interpratation...other places, the language is quite clear and concise.
"Accidential" or "Unintentional" killing is very clear as to how it is to be handled.
If he ever "shows his face" or re-enters the city where the victims families live..... they may take his life.
Too barbaric for you? Maybe so, but it would be the world of my choice.
It is very hard to understand them going against the psch.'s advice!
ReplyDeleteHey I like the new pic of you and your hubby--It is new, isn't it?
Lori,
ReplyDeleteI feel the same anger you do.
xoxo
Jane
He's banned from using alcohol and weapons? So that means he can't get drunk again and shoot himself in the head? Damn.
ReplyDeleteYou know if this was in the US he wouldnt be released...but I am just as angry as you are in this situation...I cant believe our justice system and where their minds are at when they make decisions like this...
ReplyDeleteI agree!
ReplyDeleteJust let me be boss of the world for two weeks.
ReplyDeleteI'll straighten things out.
Oh yes I will.
This is such a sad event words fail me.This " legal " injustice defies all logic, you hear of this happening in England and Ireland, someone released, mentally unstable,to go on to commit another atrocity .
ReplyDeleteI understand your upset and anger,my son as a young boy was a victim ( don't want to talk about details )of a man who was sent to prison, released after serving only a couple of months and went on to reoffend, destroying countless lives of other young boys.In my opinion the law is an ass.
It is really quite sickening to see this kind of stuff happen. We have it here in the UK too and some go on to kill again. I despair at the political correctness that panders to killer's rights over the victim's and the families.
ReplyDeleteSounds like California law. One of the safest places to be is on death row here. So sorry for these poor victims. Just horrific. Can't believe they will spring him and hand him his keys!
ReplyDeleteI came by to tell you how you made me laugh over on Menopausal Old Bag's blog but it hardly seems appropriate to say, under the circumstances. And your profile statement is one of the best I've read - gave me a laugh as well.
But this is an odd time to tell you so on this blog post.
It seems to me that the powers that be, only seem to use the hard line when it suits them.... Perhaps it's a monetary thing and it just cheaper for them to have this chap roaming the streets, being a danger to everyone who comes close, than it is to keep him in a secure environment where he can get the help he so obviously needs - my heart goes out the the families of the people who he has affected and will continued to upset once he is released from care. x
ReplyDeleteThis happens way too much and make life so dangerous for everyone. I'm tired of habitual drunk drivers having so many DUIs before they are totally restricted from driving. I'm tired of child molesters getting no prison sentence at all.
ReplyDeleteIt's disgusting what criminals can get away with and I don't care if the guy has a mental disorder or not. He murdered people that is enough for me. He should have been sentenced to 1st degree murder changes for every person he killed. PERIOD!
This is unbelievable and upsetting beyond words. You see, I'm a Texas girl. I know Texas has a reputation for being cowboys but I bet the victim's families would be loving the "Cowboy way" right now. This wouldn't happen in Texas.
ReplyDeleteLori,
ReplyDeleteI feel as upset and disturbed as you are over this. It is not fair that he can continue ...
What can be done? This is so not right.
I think of Maija Liisa often, she was such a bright beautiful girl. I feel for the families.
T
I know Tracy. I remember the days afterwards at the shop. You guys really held it together. It was so awful.
