GUARDIANS OF THE FIRE PIT

The fire pit up at our cabin is really, really big. The metal circle is 4 feet across. This is surrounded by a flagstone patio and some large log beam benches.

It is a gathering place for many no matter what time of year.

My BB Guy has made 3 huge benches and had a vision of what he wanted for one of them. He used full logs for the ends on one bench and then commissioned a chainsaw artist to carve the posts.

They turned out great!!!

This bench is 9 feet long. The carved posts are about 5 1/2 feet tall. We now have an eagle and a bear.

MOUNTAIN MAGIC

Just sharing some beautiful scenery not far from our cabin. My BB Guy was up there snowmobiling. The vistas take your breath away.

Make sure you are wearing your long underwear because baby it’s cold out there.

I think we may need some more wood. The river is not frozen over though.

METAMORPHOSIS AT THE RIVERS EDGE

We were quite surprised to find these guys at the side of the river in a little channel. 

First we saw a few. 

 

Then we noticed an area where there were a lot. 

 On closer inspection we saw they were piling up about an inch thick. It was amazing. 

 A few had their little legs but most were still not at that point.  Soon there will be a bunch of little frogs in the forest edge.

ARE WE HAVING FUN YET? OH YES WE ARE.

We were at the cabin this weekend with 3 other couples and one teenager. (poor him) This is not our cabin but I love the shot. It was taken not too far from our place. 

Look at the worm holes in that piece of bark. Too weird. 
I was off on Friday and we headed out to the cabin for a party. No reason other then getting together with friends. 
We laughed non-stop the whole weekend. 
There was a ton of food as usual. Plenty of wine, beers and other beverages.

We also went down the river a ways. The water was ice cold but a few of our group did go in.

 Some really hard work (okay I swung the axe once and my wrist still hurts. The log was completely unharmed). 

These weekends are always too short but at our ages maybe that is all our livers can handle anyways. 

OUTDOOR WEDNESDAY - IT IS TIME TO EAT

My BB Guy was at the cabin last weekend and while out and about he came across a local who decided it was time to start eating.

He was really stuffing his face having not eaten in a few months. BB Guy was close but not to close. The camera lens helped him get up close in personal without bothering Mr. Bear.

Look at that shaggy old coat. He/she will rub it off over the next few weeks and tufts of it will hang from the tree trunks that they rub against. 

Luckily there were no babies around or even this distance with a camera would be too dangerous.
We have had bears right at the cabin. I always keep my distance.

These photos are from last week. My BB guy goes to the cabin on the 27th. of December and stays until the 31st. He is home in time for New Years Eve but is pretty exhausted from all the fun in the snow. It is a lot of work to have this much fun.

BB mentioned last night that there was this great property for sale up country and he and JL were teasing me about moving there. I don't like being "up country" and rarely even go to our own cabin. He seemed to think the fact that there were bunk houses included that I would be swayed. I could cook up the food and he could do the atv or snow mobile tours. Of course the only decent groceries would be many miles away. He mentioned that he wondered if they had power.

I found a different property and think we would be able to do the same thing there. I could do the cooking from the most beautiful ingredients that are readily available along with the fabulous wines from the local vineyards. Which one would you rather be at?

THIS IS WAY WORSE THAN A COUGAR

So the guys came back from the cabin this evening. My BB guy called me from the road and asked if I wanted to go to dinner. I probably had my answer out of my mouth before he was finished asking. Oh yes.
Off we went to a local steak house. Prime rib was in order as I always have. So there was my BB guy and my youngest son. They had been with a large group of locals up at the cabin because they were attending a funeral service for a long time resident of the area. Although he had the same surname as us and his family was from the same area in Ontario originally there was no connection that I could find.
The service was held in the local Legion hall.
At some point the local guys were teasing our son with threats of SMOPS. Now this is worse than a cougar after my 22 years old. Not only did he have to worry about the SMOPs but also the SMOTs and the SMOCs.
Imagine my delight to find out that a SMOP is a Single Mother of Princeton, Or a SMOT Single Mother of Tulameen or even closer a SMOC Single Mother of Coalmont.
That is it! He is grounded.

These photos were taken over the last 12 days up around our cabin in the Princeton area. Ignore the date on the camera as my BB guy has no idea how to change the date and it is his work camera.
These guys range in age from 13 to about 57 years old but they still have one thing in common. They love the outdoors. Our sons were not there but our friend was there with his young son and our other friend was there with his grown son.
They eat like kings (I taught him everything he knows about cooking) and they travel through the mountain sides on roads that trucks can't get through. And they have fun. Dirty, grimy fun.
Well that is all I can say because you couldn't pay me enough to go along on one of these rides.
