Do you know what one of my most favorite things in the whole wide world, ever, ever, ever is? No, of course you don't.
My fondest memory is of my sons when they were little. You take two little boys and dip them in the bathtub for a while until they are pink and soft and smelling of soap. You wrap those little guys up in a big warm towel and dry them off and then here comes the best part...flannel pajamas. With their wet hair combed neatly, the flannel jammies tucked in and their cheeks still pink from the bath.
This is the best thing in the whole world. A clean, warm, cuddly, loved child. One who will be cuddled and hugged and tucked into bed with a story and a kiss goodnight.
My sons are grown (my eldest turning 27 next week) yet I can still smell and feel the way this felt. I hope they can too.
What are some of your favorite things?

That IS one of the best things...you certainly triggered my memories of that!! :) Those were the days when Mom was the greatest person in their world!!
ReplyDeleteI love my baby's bath time and so does he. But he's a real squirrel now when it's time to dry off and dress... you turn your head and you have a naked little baby crawling off as fast as he can down the hall, LOL.
ReplyDeleteYou brought back some warm snuggly memories, Lori. Nothing like a clean smelling child. And you knew your time was well worth it by the color of the bath water! lol! I still love the fragrant smell of the bathroom after the girls shower...all those magic potions they use!

aw i love this time with my kiddos! It is one of the best parts!
ReplyDeleteOh well GEE Lori, now I have tears in my eyes. It IS the best time -- when the children are little, portable in your arms, and Mom ruled the world!
ReplyDeleteHoward and I would bathe the girls together, then I would take the younger, all wrapped up in a big towel, up to their room for clean jammies, and he would help the older get ready still in the bathroom. We found if we had them together, the hilarity was not sleep-inducing!
My niece/god-daughter is expecting TWINS in October. Can't wait to hold a baby again!
Still love my kids, but the job description does change, doesn't it?

Hi Lori: I do remember those days when I had two little boys that loved to be hugged and sit on your lap. At 36 and 32 they don't want to do that anymore. I wonder why? LOL. Valerie:)
ReplyDeleteOh I love this post Lori, what wonderful, precious memories. My favorite time was always story time. A magical, quiet moment at the end of the day. Now I'm starting to think I did it more for me than for Cait :) Kathy
ReplyDeleteBath times were always one of the more pleasant memories..only time I didn't mind cleaning up water off the bathroom floor!! Remember the squeals of laughter and who could make the longest "beard" with the soap suds!!
ReplyDeleteI loved bath time when my girls were little because they could play in the tub for hours on end. My husband or I would sit close by reading while they entertained themselves, and when they were done it was much easier to get them to go to sleep.
ReplyDeleteI remember throwing both the kids in the tub at the same time and having a flood on the floor from all the water they would kick out of the tub. I now have fun with our little GS in the tub when he sleeps over and honestly there is nothing like the smell when you kiss them goodnight and they smell like J&J baby shampoo.

YES! That's my most favorite too... :)
ReplyDeleteAwwwww. Such a great memory for you. Almost too bad that kids have to grow up....

So true! Your post makes me wish I had appreciated those times more when my kids were little (24 & 21 now) instead of just going through the motions of bathtime, storytime and bedtime in an effort to have some time to myself! Maybe in the future, I can try again with some grandchildren!

Fav... footie flannel jammies. oh my gosh what I would give to put my slightly overweight fanny into a pair of those about now with my cold floors. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the memory. Thanks for letting us share it.
Hugs

Oh girl, ya just reminded me I have a stash of those McCall's and Simplicity patterns stashed away. I make everything from dress suits for my male child and frilly ruffly dresses for my girl. I totally understand the clean boy and jammie thing. Thanks for the memories.
ReplyDeleteGod bless ya'll and have a beautiful day! :o)
Hmmmmm....my favorite things? Well....at the moment, it would be wearing my pajamas all day around the house. In fact, I would wear them everywhere if the "pajama police" wouldn't give me a ticket. LOL LOL
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Jo
This made me think of the time my mom had a pattern for pj's and she made me some!! Nice memories!
ReplyDeleteHmmm ... the pattern made me think about all the clothes my mom sewed for my sister and I growing up ... and the sewing I've done over the decades too. I love hanging out around home in sweats when it's chilly and snuggling with Molly (my fur-kid) at night before bedtime.
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
my mom used to sew all of my and my sisters clothes...the pattern sure brings back memories
ReplyDeleteI still wear flannel PJs and sometimes on a Sunday, I don't even get dressed all day long. Love those days!!
ReplyDeleteThose years too when you could bathe the two together. They loved it and it was a wonderful happy sound. Sometimes I cheated with a little outdoor pool. But not quite the same. Your right about the flannels there is just something about them on the little ones ready for bed, even those with the feet in them.
ReplyDeleteI am really glad that you re-posted this ... lovely memories all we mothers can share.
ReplyDeleteMy flannel sheets, fresh out of the dryer - no scented anything, just clean and fresh... ans warm... I struggle with putting them on the bed or wrapping myself in them... having done both, I prefer the wrap!
