So sad to hear of the passing of Evelyn Lauder at age 75. You may not know the name but you know the symbol.
She helped created the pink ribbon campaign for breast cancer awareness in 1992.
She was married to the son of Estee Lauder and worked in the family business for years. Someone with some clout to get recognition for the cause.
Sadly she died of non-genetic ovarian cancer. My Grand-niece has raised money for research for this and other “Women’s” cancers in the past. I have posted about her before here
Though Michelle’s fundraising group has a clever name of Walkers For Knockers they are very serious about drawing attention and dollars to combat these awful cancers.
So to Evelyn Lauder and to all those who fundraise, research, donate, treat and caretake I salute your efforts.
Rest In Peace Evelyn Lauder.
I applaud Evelyn Lauder and your grandniece. What they have and are doing is truly selfless and hard work.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely tribute post...I had heard of Evelyn Lauder but didn't know she was waging a cancer battle of her own. How sad.
XO,
Jane
Thank you for this info and tell your grandniece thank you for the work she does.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, do you have a leak in your car?
I didn't know she was the woman behind the pink ribbon...can you imagine living to 75 only to be taken by cancer? :(
ReplyDeleteAnd so to Evelyn's pink ribbon we add a teal one - the color for ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is the silent killer. If anyone would like to know more about signs and symptoms for early detection you can find some information on my sidebar at Miscellaneous Thoughts. RIP Evelyn. Keep up the good work Michelle!
ReplyDeleteThank you for her tribute. Just today found out my sister in law has cancer in both lungs. I as a skin cancer survivor know that Cancer in any form sucks! Keep praying, keep supporting, keep fighting. Evelyn would want us to!
ReplyDeleteShe was a beautiful woman. Ovarian cancer is known as the "Silent Killer" because it takes so long for it to be diagnosed that it is usually discovered at Stage 3 or 4. I read in Prevention Maganzine that is a test using ultrasound that ought to be a regular part of a woman's annual exam. See their article here: http://www.prevention.com/health/health/health-concerns/ovarian-cancer-prevention-and-diagnosis/article/9197c292f9471310VgnVCM10000030281eac____
ReplyDeleteI didn't know this. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing - so good to hear of folks who give of themselves for others. She must have been a wonderful person, and will be sorely missed I'm sure.
