ROOSTER PARTY

There is  a rooster party going on at Bella Vista hosted by Barb. This is such a popular theme because there is just something about roosters that seem to draw us all in.
I didn't intend to collect roosters and in fact I don't. I just seem to end up with a lot of them.

The large picture here was painted by me. It is part of a vegetable storage bin. The chicken wire is actually painted on. Now starting at the top smaller photos there is my doorstop, utensil jar, jug from Portugal, kitchen hook, plate, S&P shakers and double hook.

This painting was done by the friend of the lady at a local apple orchard. It was in their store. When I asked if it was for sale she hesitated and he said YES. I felt really uncomfortable buying it as she seemed to not want to part with it. Smaller pictures are from the top, bucket, wood carving, wire roosters, Betty Crocker dishes, utensil jar, plate and shelf.
I do have a few more rooster items but thought of them after I was done with these. I guess they have just become part of the household and I don't notice them all the time.

  1. Love them all. How fun and how neat. I am with you, I look around and I have a lot more roosters than I thought I had. What fun. I love all of yours, but the painting you did just had me drooling. It is awesome. I would love to see more of it. Hugs, Marty

  2. I too, love them all, Lori. The one you painted for the veggie bin is wonderful!! What talent. I truly thought that was real chicken wire. Do you paint often?

Also love the painting from the apple orchard. The lady probably gave her husband a good tongue lashing after you left with the painting! lol!

  3. I know what you mean about them just showing up. You've got a great collection. What really caught my eye was the chicken wire you painted. It's so realistic. Great job!

  4. Blondie I don't paint as often as I used to. The store I sold through closed down so I have just been painting pieces for myself and for gifts and giveaways on here.
Dawn, the chicken wire didn't take as long as you would think. You take real wire and spread it over the piece then you take a hammer and bash it into the wood at all the bumpy connecting spots. Then when you take it off there are dents in the wood where all the lines intersect and you know where to paint. There goes all my painting secrets.

  5. Oh! I forgot about my pitcher from Spain!
My rooster post is set to pop up at midnight.

  6. Hey, I love this new look for your blog or has it been here for awhile and I missed it....too late getting home from work...bleerie eyed. Not a rooster person but that was the kitchen decor at the place we stayed in St. Joe's for the week.

  9. for someone who doesn't collect roosters -- well, they seem to collect YOU! Love them -- but I love roosters and chickens. If it weren't for the dog, I'd have chickens here. Well, if it weren't for a sensible husband, I'd have chickens....

You are a GOOD painter! I am so envious. There are so many things I'd like to paint, but sadly -- not enough talent!

  11. You have a great collection.....for not having a collection :) You are very talented. That rooster you painted with the chicken wire was very well done. I love your blog name too!

  12. Love the wire rooster! I have a wire chicken somewhere. Pretty sure the husband has hidden it in the attic under the fluffy insulation. He hates chicken & rooster collections. But one day, I'm gonna brave the heat of the attic & poke around thru the insulation with a stick till I find my chicken!

He's hidden off stuff in the insulation before - so I'm on to him!

  13. Ohhh Lori I wanted to play but I don't have any roosters - at least I didn't think I did. I know I have one. Now if you want to have a tea pot party that is my collection - I have been on the hunt for a special tea pot for over five years now and won't get another one until I find that one.
Love your pictures -- I do adore other people's tole painting.

  15. You have a great collection even if it's not a "collection" lol. I love the bucket of all things, and I really like the painting you did on the veggie bin. Very nice, right down to the chicken wire. Have a great weekend! Kathy

  16. Hi Lori,
I didn't realize you were a painter! Thanks for sharing the technique you used to transfer the wire design to the painting surface. I know from experience, however, that getting the drawing done is barely half the battle... it's applying the paint ... the colors, values, shading, brushwork, etc. etc. that determine the final outcome!

I have that same little rooster pitcher from Portugal. Mine came from GW ... I think it cost 99 cents. Was I robbed???

  21. I am in awe of your painting skills! The rooster you painted on your bin is so absolutely adorable, Lori! I really don't collect these fowl, either. But like you, they tend to make an appearance every so often. In fact, there were none inhabiting my kitchen until a few months ago when Rue and Sue told me that I needed to set them out so I could be a
    "proper blogger." tee hee
