Outdoor Wednesday is on again over at The Southern Daydreamer. Thanks to Susan for hosting again. Looks like baseball is in full swing over there. Stop in and visit all the participants.
I am showing my little water feature for outdoor Wednesday. I had the old galvanized laundry tub and a couple of the galvanized watering cans. Bingo. Make a water feature.
I brought it up at coffee group one morning and the guys were very helpful with advice on how to get the can sitting on an angle and how to get the water through the spout.
I was told to weld it to some rebar which would have a foot piece welded on the bottom to place under the tub to hold it upright....I know...me too.
I was told to drill a hole for the tubing and to fill the bottom of the watering can with concrete on an angle to stabilize the can...uh no thanks.
I was told to weave the tubing inside of the handle through a hole and then loop it around to the front and out through the spout but they didn't know how I would hold it in place...ya..okay.
Well here it is. My own version. No welding, drilling or cement involved.
What did I do? I took a galvanized flower bucket. Tilted the can on top of it. Put in a couple rocks to hold it steady. I stuck the hose through the spout just by going over the top and into the opening. Yes you can see the clear tubing but you know what...I don't care. It sounds lovely and you really don't notice it while sitting there.
You came up with a great idea and carried through with it. Very nice job and post.
ReplyDeleteI think that you are very creative, and it is lovely. Over the years I have built hundreds of water features for the nursery, and do I love them.
ReplyDeleteIs that a red banana, or a canna? Whatever it is, it is in great shape.
I am really loving the new look. Very nice.

Very cute idea!!!! We have a pond in back but, hubby did not fix the pump & now after all the leaves have fallen in it... YUCK! I want it gone. Enjoy your new water garden , I did for a long time. But, the newness wears off & the algae grows. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThe red plant is a Canna lily.
ReplyDeleteVERY fun shot and work... oh my it looks like quite a bit of time there :)
ReplyDeleteStop by if you get a minute -- would love to have you.

Lovley! Nice post.
ReplyDeleteVery fun post! I love your creative solutions to the things the guys said couldn't be done! You GO!
ReplyDeleteit looks great; does it make you tinkle? I'm afraid I'd be in and out of the powder room . . . . I'm very suggestible. :-)
(the green wine was good!)

PS Love the spiffy new look. Very nice! I really like the red damask look -- that would make good REAL wallpaper!
Gee whiz, I thought I was at the wrong blog. I love the new look. It's always fun to tweak things a little, and speaking of tweaking, you did a great job with this neato little fountain. I laughed at the coffee group's advice. Typical men. Let's over think and engineer it. It turned out really nice Lucy. I also thought that the canna was a cordyline, it looks really tropical!

What a clever use of cast offs. It look terrific and your photos are wonderful. I hope you are having a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteVery creative water feature! Thanks for stopping by my blog! Have a great day! ~Cindy~
ReplyDeleteI really like this idea, you started to lose me with the how to ideas from your coffee group, but when I saw how simple your solution was, I said "Eureka!" I might be able to do this one. Of course, now that I've got a plan for a neat water feature they've started mandatory water restrictions here lol. So I guess it will have to wait. Thanks for the idea. The photos looks great. Kathy
ReplyDeleteThat is really a neat idea.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh....simplication at it's best! And you're right the sound is the most important thing!
ReplyDeleteThat's great! I have a solar terra cotta one, but the pump died and the company that I spent 100 bucks to buy doesn't sell replacements...Simply Fountains..so now I don't get that lovely sound!
ReplyDeleteVery creative of you, Lori!
Hi Lori, thanks for naming the flower, I knew I knew the name, it just wouldn't come to mind :)
ReplyDeleteLove your little water feature.
Wow, that's incredibly nifty & clever! Very nice, very nice indeed!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I've gotta try it!
