My car is in the driveway, gray Volkswagen Passat Wagon. This picture must be a couple years old because my husband no longer has that truck parked on the pad to the left.
Along the roadside I have a weeping birch, red maple, blue spruce, purple ornamental plum and a huge Deodara cedar. It is taller than the house. There is also a regular spruce tree there too but you can't see it along with a big kidney shaped flower bed in the middle of the front lawn and a perrenial garden lining the driveway that is about 7-8 feet across in spots. It is a 1/4 acre lot.
All those big green trees to the right are in a greenbelt that borders us. They have grown so tall that they shade my vegetable garden too much.
There is a fence across the back of the property, the brown thing. I have perennials planted all along there. I am thinking that is the patio umbrella you see right at the back of the house. There is a darker strip of grass going from the back of the house to the fence line/gate.
One day I asked my BB to put in a walkway of paving stones or something so we could walk to the compost pile at the back or to the gate to the neighbours. In his usual overkill manner he lined the sides of the walk with landscape ties that were 3 feet apart then filled it in with river rock and placed paving squares along the middle to walk on. He is 6'3 and I am 5'. I had to jump from square to square to go to the back. I fondly (not) referred to this walkway as the Great Wall of China. He was not amused. Finally as the ties rotted and we couldn't get the lawmower across it anymore as it did stick up the full height of the landscaped ties, we removed it and put down sod. Of course this sod is a completely different grass than what we had so TaDa there is our green stripe in the lawn.
The yard behind us is where our very dear friends used to live which is why we put in the gate. The live 5 hours away now and it was their son's wedding we went to on the Mother's Day weekend. When the kids were little we would take out a whole six foot section of the fence in the summertime so they could use both yards. It was great. The adults visited on our big deck and the kids played in their yard. We sure do miss them.
Well thanks for visiting me at my house.
I love this!!! The last time we found our house on Google Earth, the BUILDER's truck was in the driveway, so nope I don't think they keep them updated very often.
ReplyDeleteI would NEVER have figured out how to save the picture - - - you're GOOD!!!
Neat! My late parents had an aerial shot of their house in Salt Springs, New Brunswick. My dad paid someone to have it done for them though.

P.S. meant to say, I think Google Earth might give you similar results. Now you've got me interested in looking places up!
ReplyDeleteWow Lucy, it looks like you have a huge house! Do you have a maid? I love all of the trees. By any chance do you have a moose in your backyard? I always wanted one. A maid. A moose would be too uncomfortable here.
ReplyDeleteI have tried the google earth one and it is so blurry you can hardly make out anything.
ReplyDeleteAny one who wants help to do your own just email me and I will talk you through it (I do teach computers to Seniors after all)
The house is not huge at all and if I had a maid or a moose her name would be Lucy.
What a great idea! And what an astonishingly beautiful, lush place you live in, Lori!
ReplyDeleteI should send you an aerial view of the building I live in... Blah. I so hate the city these days. I wish I could be somewhere by the sea, in a little home surrouned by tall trees... Wow I'm dreaming with the image of your house... Brava! Have a wonderful weekend, ciao
I'm sitting here shaking my head and thinking...."That Lori is too too clever!" Loved to see you home. I did the google thing once and my house was covered with trees...you couldn't even see the house...only the driveway and two cars! We have taken out some of the trees. Maybe I need to try it again.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing i noticed in your picture was the diagonal strip of darker colored grass. Crazy the things one person will zoom in on & notice right off the bat.
ReplyDeleteWhat are those? power lines? I haven't seen them things in the longest. Our last house was a power line house & any big wicked wind storm or snow - there was always an issue with the power lines coming down, hanging down, falling kinda down or just strewn across someone's car.
I loved visiting your home! Thank you for sharing! Very, very nice.
