There have been several reported cougar stalkings in the Princeton, British Columbia area this past two weeks.
This is of particular concern to us because this is the area that our cabin is in.
The authorities have had to shoot 3 cougars that had become far too aggressive and were stalking human prey.
My 22 year old and his friend have plans to go up there next weekend as well as my BB guy. Now the BB guy is pretty big and not as appealing to the hunting cougar as younger guys. They do spend a lot of time on ATVs in the bush and along the river banks.
I am concerned of course but I also feel badly for the cougars.

Are they a danger? Absolutely. Do they need to be shot and killed without the chance to be moved to a less populated area? I don't think so. I think it should be the last option.
That being said if I saw a cougar going after my son you can bet I would go into Lioness mode and fight that man eater off to protect my young.
Now when my girlfriends and I go up there at the end of summer we had better be very careful because one of us is a single lady and we don't want her getting shot.

Lori I don't blame you for being concerned. I have always had the utmost respect for cougars. I would rather be face to face with a bear than a cougar (they are sneaky - even the two legged ones).
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand these were three siblings kicked out by mom and they were just too young and had no fear. Poor babes - I loath when the animals we share this planet with are slaughtered.
I just saw this story on Reuters. First its bears, now cougars. Is the human population encroaching that much on habitat of the wildlife? Must be as these encounters are getting more frequent.
