I first posted this last March. It is such a nice little place to visit I look forward to going there again soon.
On a beautiful sunny Sunday morning my BB and I found ourselves at a winery about 30 miles from our house. Domaine De Chaberton Winery, wine shop and bistro.
The red wine grapes are grown in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. This is about 220 miles away from here in the only official pocket desert in Canada. The white wine grapes are grown here on a south slope in a micro climate that is perfect for "cool climate" grapes.
The wine shop has the most beautiful gift baskets and wine accessories. We found a wedding gift here for someone but we can't say what it is for obvious reasons.
I suggested my BB should buy this for me but alas it is not in the budget. It had 8 bottles of wine and various other items in it.
The winery has won many medals throughout the years and had gold medals in Michigan in 2008 and California in 2007.
We tried several wines and bought the 2004 VQA Canoe Cove Shiraz and a 2007 VQA Pinot Gris to try at home.
The red was served with a steak dinner. It held up well to the grilled meat. It was a mix of spice and deep red fruits. Cherry, smokey, beautiful long legs. The white will be served on a sunny day with a light spread of cheeses, breads and maybe some olives. Buttery tastes. Many thanks to the lovely staff who declined to be photographed. The tasting was very enjoyable.
Lori, This looks like a lovely place to visit. I have only been to the wine country of northern California....I had no idea that there was such a place in British Columbia. It looks like a charming area....hope you get to go back soon......sure makes for a wonderful weekend, doesn't it? :)
ReplyDeletethis looks like a great place to visit...there are no winery's around here...so I am glad you took us with you! How did the gift go over?
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun place to visit...any place with wine tasting is a fun place to visit. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteHi Lori...
ReplyDeleteOhhh...what a fabulous way to spend a leisurely Sunday, my friend! You know, I don't know if there are any vineyards here in Colorado or not? I must admit that I'm not really a wine drinker but nevertheless, I would love to go to a winery for a wine tasting! Just sounds fun...and kind of romantic! Hehe! Thank you for sharing your lovely trip with us today for Sunday Favorites, Darlin'! I sure enjoyed it!
Well dear lady, how is everything going up in your neck of the woods? Does Canada do the Daylight Savings Time thing? Hope that you are still enjoying that new job! Talk with you later, my friend!
Have a super Sunday!

What a great place to visit. One of my favorite places in the wine country in Northern California. It's always such a treat. I'm glad you had a great day. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThat looks fantastic! I want one of those beautiful baskets.
ReplyDeleteIt's always interesting to learn about different parts of the country. In my ignorance, I had no idea that there were wineries in BC. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLori, if you were there, you could have driven a few minutes more and stopped by to visit.
ReplyDeleteThey are one of our favorite wineries, and good thing that they are so close by. We love the Bacchus, a real lovely white, and it always seems to win awards.
If you ever get up to Salmon Arm, there is another award winning winery there, called Larch Hills, beautiful setting. And wonderful owners, stunning collection of award winning wines. I think that they are known as the highest altitude winery in Canada.

Very nice post. I love taking winery tours.
ReplyDeleteI live in the heart of the Missouri wine country. I posted last summer about a winery here that use to have the largest sales in the world before prohibition shut it down. They grew mushrooms in their cellars for fifty years until the winery was reopened and is now on the comeback train.
thanks for the visit and the lovely comment you left on my ruby ring story.
