Let me just say right off the top that I am not a hockey fan. I prefer basketball. That being said, our local NHL team the Vancouver Canucks are having the most awesome year and are first in the league. Things are heating up around here. Everywhere you look the Canuck flags are flying from peoples cars. Hanging in peoples windows.
I am happy for them. I hope they win because they are "our" team. Will I start hosting
As more and more people jump on the bandwagon I shrug my shoulders. I wasn't interested before when they were doing poorly and I am not going to suddenly become a fan now that they are doing great.
But that bandwagon will be getting bigger and bigger as the days go on. Those who once felt like I did will now be spouting statistics and dropping names like they are best friends with the players.
They will fill the streets and in some case riot whether we win or lose.
Me?
I'll be busy that day.
(go Canucks, go)
Does it make us bad Vancouverites to ask if this is all about football? I love to see the astounded face on sports fans when I quietly ask them, like you if this is about the Grey Cup.
ReplyDeleteYes I am a minority, a person who has no interest in sports. I tried to fake it for a few days, but I just can't continue...LOL.
I wish them luck, but beyond that, well, when you get down past the hype, and the retailers, it's just a bunch of overpaid overgrown thugs chasing a piece of rubber on ice. Whether or not you wish to cheer for them is a choice.

Not a hockey fan at all.
ReplyDeleteHey now, I'm all for any excuse to raise a glass at the Pub! I'm in Flyers country, hockey's ok, but I'll leave the FANatic antics to my son:@)
ReplyDeleteI am not a big hockey fan either. I cringe everytime I see one of those players get hurt, just not body protection for them.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up our household was Ken Dryden and the Montreal Canadians, to this day my family still cheers for the Habs.
Glad my son is a basketball player. Diane
Wow... you should see it here... when the leafs play... -.- Its a jungle, with everyone going ape crazy... me? Nah, The only game I was excited (mildly) for is when we won with the US for the gold... and then my interest in hockey went back down to normal... from mediocre interested to not-at-all... LOL But I see your point... gonna b hard to ignore that riot though, good luck with it!
ReplyDeleteDid you NOT hear me last year when the Hawks won the Stanley Cup??
ReplyDeleteLots of luck!!
XO,
Jane
Go Vancouver.....am really cheering them on but then I'm a sports nut.....:-)Hugs
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I've got bigger fish to fry. You can only imagine being a Montreal transplant now living in the Boston area how crazy it could be. I say "may the best team win". The Olympics were different though....go Canada!
ReplyDeleteYou don't strike me as someone who jumps on a bandwagon or follow the crowd. That is what's so great! Don't change your sassy ways.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm a little dumbfounded that you are lukewarm on hockey...I thought all Canadians learn to ice skate before they crawl. :)
Forgive me, just because I was married to a Canadian, it doesn't earn me joking rights. Just dropping in to say hello, and thank YOU for stopping by and gracing my blog with your style and wit. Drop by again soon. -M
That's so funny, that's exactly how I would be. Don't care! lol
ReplyDeleteNot a hockey fan either, but I know how exciting it is when your team is winning. Go GIANTS! Did I mention, I love baseball?
ReplyDeleteI like a good hockey match but we are Redwings fans. =)
