I AM EASILY CONFUSED

Several years ago when we had our own company there was an interesting phenomenon going on. We had so many staff members with the same names. We had a Tom, Thomas and a surname Tom. We had two surname Martins and a first name Martin. We had more Robs/Bobs than you could shake a stick at. (we shouldn't have shaken sticks at them but they really could tick us off). We had 3 Pauls and two Peters but no Dicks. Okay I didn't  have to add that last one, it was just for shock value.

Lets jump ahead now to my blog world. Some time ago I posted about a genealogy find. Sue from Luxe Lanai commented back with a really funny comment. The gist of it was that we were like Lucy and Ethel. I emailed her back saying I wouldn't be Ethel because that meant I would "be" with Fred and that wasn't going to happen.
Funny thing is the Sue I emailed back was Sue over at Sullivan & Murphy. She had no idea what I was talking about and became my friend even though she must have thought I was weird. She became Ethel. So now we have 2 Lucys and an Ethel and I think 4 Sues/Susans.

I have 3 Michelles in my blog friends, a couple Tammys, at least 5 Lindas, a couple of Lous, two Claudies, multiple Joannes. And then there are the Janes. These numbers are not even accurate because some of the names are not shown.
I email incorrect responses to people of the same names all the time. I hope they think it is them who doesn't remember asking that question or leaving that comment.
So I guess what I am saying is if you get an off the wall response from me just chalk it up to my easily confused brain because it can't be that I am really just weird. Can it?

  1. A funny post, now am I Jenn, or Jen, or Jan, or maybe Josie?

I would love to write a post asking if everyone would please ever so kindly, put their real name on their blog, or their comments, even just the first name. I find it so hard to address comments back to oh let's use my blog name "A sibilant surf."

Hey Sibilant, blah blah blah..... I loved your comment on the ocean waves etc.

See, it just doesn't work. Do you want to write one also LONNIE?

    Jen

  2. Chalk it up to lack of imagination in the '50's! There were FIVE Susans in my first grade room! In a few years there will be a plethora of Madisons, Isabelles, and Madelines on these blogs :) If you like I will try to think of a very exoctic name to use when I write you, but for now....sign me....just another Susan :)

  3. Too funny, have you ever counted the number of Kathy's? Made elementary school interesting - if someone called "Katherine Ann" half the school turned around, and if they called "Mary Elizabeth" the other half turned around! I'm with Susan, not much imagination in the 50's. Could be worse, we could have been born in the 60's and ended up with Gidget. And my day wouldn't be complete without at least one strange comment or e-mail, so feel free to keep them coming. Kathy

  4. Ahhh but I think I am the only Joanne that's just across the bridge.

I just got an e-mail on the weekend from an estranged friend (glad she made the mistake) Ironically she sent to me and another name - and the other name was exactly the same as my Dean's. She lives in Maryland - so definitely not my dean. I am glad she made the mistake we have picked up our friendship where we left off.

  5. PS growing up I thought I was the only Joanne in the world.

  6. I am easily confused also. My late husband was Mike.. and my husband now is Mike. I joke that the reason I married another Mike.. I can never get in trouble over a name..

  7. I don't think it would matter if any comment you made to me was relevant or not... I'm sure I would still laugh my ass off and "heart" you even more.

    Great post. Love this...;)

  9. Hahaha... that's why I stuck with "Cass" when my younger sister couldn't say "Catherine" when we were kids -- there were already too many "Cathys" in my school.

So -- are you Lucy now or Ethel? Or Ricky? (ba-ba-LOOOOOO)

    Cass

  11. Lol. Update, add one more Lucy and we do indeed have a Dick. I know I have missed many of you. Sorry. My head is all stuffed up and my throat is raw. Sniff, sniff. Send someone to clean my house and cook dinner please.

  15. Oh yeah, and when I worked outside of the home I worked with a lot of Pam's. Weird.

  16. OK, here's adding to your list of 'Hank's. Great post, Lori. Or, is it Ethel? In any event, it made me smile. Thanks.

  17. I have a friend named Debbie, both of whose sisters-in-law are named Debbie. Mother and one brother are Bobbie/Bobby. Other brother and father are Rudy. 7 people, 3 names.

  18. That can be pretty messy when there are too many same names. But OTOH if you are talking about someone and they hear you can say it was about the "other" Pam ;-)

  19. I don't know which is the funniest, the blog or the comments. It is great the way you can laugh at yourself. It enables us to laugh along with you. This is funny.

  20. up until junior high i was always the only amman. then i met another so there were 2 of us. when we switched to senior high where all the junior schools merged. all of a sudden there was 3 more and they all came from the same school. i was thought i was an original up until then. my last name parmar is still kinda rare and at work its all about the last name cuz we have a dispatch and they call ur last name. being the only parmar working with 100s of others really comes in handy. i never have to check the work slip wondering if im the right parmar or not :)
