Last Sunday morning I was up early and heading to the grocery store for much needed supplies. I figured I would grab a coffee to take with me. Now those who know me know that I am loyal to Zenberry Coffee shop but he isn't open that early on a Sunday so it was off to a Starbucks. There is one in the same complex that I shop at.
I parked in the middle of the lot and went and got my coffee. I walked from there across the lot to the grocery store. I put my grande black coffee on top of the line of carts to get out a quarter to release the grocery cart. I'll be damned if the cup didn't shift position and flip onto the ground.
What did I say you ask? The big one. The one that gets me into this meme for sure. I said the F-bomb standing there all by myself in front of the grocery store with a huge puddle, a "grande" puddle around my feet.
You know what my first thought was? Oh this is going onto the blog and linking with Mimi's meme. I had to do all my shopping without my morning coffee and that is not a good thing. Instead of going home after I went to Zenberry to whine and snivel about it. And to get my coffee.
I am adding this addendum to the post to explain to our neighbours to the south about paying for a shopping cart. We put a quarter in a little box attached to the cart handle. This releases the chain that held it to the cart behind it. When you are done shopping you push the cart into the last one in the line and stick the little key like device from the chain back into your cart attaching it to the pack. This releases your quarter.
Now there are two good reasons to do this. First of all you always can find a cart because they are brought back to the various covered drop off points since nobody wants to give up their quarter. Secondly this eliminates the problem of random carts left all over the parking lot that roll into your car leaving a dent.

Oh.. That is a good one Lori. Is that the Sav On right there by Costco? I can't remember if it is a Sav On or something else.. but I know that Starbucks. Michelle and I would always hit that one before I left for home.
ReplyDeleteyou have to pay to use a shopping cart? never heard of that...sorry about loosing your coffee...
ReplyDeleteOhh Lori - the awesome F-Bomb - sometimes no other words work. I used it a bit this morning due to a "health" issue I am going through.
ReplyDeleteHope you tell Deb we just "rent" the carts *winks*
I can relate!! And I hardly ever swear. Well, maybe when I'm all by myself. But the F-bomb has slipped out a few times!!!! Now I do say "shit" but I figure that's a golf term : ))
ReplyDeleteMay I say that I hate those locked up grocery carts!!
That is DEFINITELY an F-Bomb moment. And a few other words as well. I HATE when that happens. Damn coffee. :)
ReplyDeleteWait. Yeah, seriously, you have to pay a quarter for the cart?
ReplyDeleteI'm here to make lemonade :-). At least you weren't burned. I love the new look of your blog.
ReplyDeleteOh wow...what a meme!! I stopped swearing after I had kids. Now that they do I have taken it up again.
ReplyDeleteGreat story!

I'd have dropped an F bomb along with my coffee too. I kind of wish our grocery stores had that kind of system. Some of our carts have sensors on them and the wheels all lock if you take them too far from the store. What ends up happening is there is a wall of abandoned carts at the edge of store. (We have lots of problems with carts left on sidewalks in neighborhoods. Tacky.)
ReplyDeleteI've been doing the same thing! Ever since MiMi started this theme, I have been watching and waiting to make mental notes of F bomb moments. I never thought I would WANT something obnoxious to happen to me, but they make better stories in the long run!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment btw!
Thanks for coming to visit my blog today! :)
ReplyDeleteNothing pisses me off more then spilling my coffee... #1 it costs so freakin much anymore & #2 every lil sip helps give me sanity if my 3 little ones are being stinkers when I am out & about in town.
Oh & SERIOUSLY that is crazy about the shopping carts! Actually sounds like a good idea but also totally odd to us here in Oregon. Do you guys not have people who work at the store that go gather all the carts???
I am just so intrigued with the whole cart thing... that is just too cool! Makes sense... make people be responsible for things & they treat them better.
ReplyDeleteYup Lucy, it was worth it. I would like to have both. 25 cent shopping cart deposit for the lazy Florida geezers, and a big fat old bomb drop because that is just what I need. Makes cents to me.
ReplyDeleteXOlucy.
been there...I hate those coin lock things!!!
ReplyDeletehave a wonderful weekend...oh...and don't forget to stop by this week...starting right now to enter and learn about the great give away that is being held on my blog this week! I know you will love the prize
F-Bomb moment if I ever heard one.
ReplyDeleteI have a similar coffee incident which also warranted the use of such profanity. Perhaps I will make it next week's post.
I can't / won't do anything without morning coffee. Kudo's to you!!
Woulda said exactly the same thing!
ReplyDeleteWe have those same 1 euro/coin thingies on our trolleys here in France, I keep the tokens in my coat pockets or the car glove box, but can never find one.
When that happensit's not really a F bomb moment, more of a "shoot"!

I could use an F-Bomb day. True Potty Mouth here but never hide it, I grew up in Detroit and a true product of my environment!
