Today is the first day of school here in B.C. It will not be a full day but it is an important day for the kids.
Many have not seen each other since last June. They have grown, they have changed and they are so excited.
There is such anticipation as to who will be in their homeroom classes, where will their best friend end up. What about the boy or girl they had a crush on?
Some kids may have moved away. There will be brand new kids. Kids with no friends. Have you ever talked to your kids about how to welcome someone new?
The biggest concerns would probably be about the bullies. Which class will they be in. Fingers crossed that they have moved away but of course that just makes them someone else’s problem.
How about you. Are you a weepy mom or dad on the first day of school? I have a friend that would have a champagne brunch on the first day of school for all the parents who could make it. Not a lot of bubbly…don’t judge…just a toast to a new school year and some lovely food we all brought.
Here is a great song about those old days.
I don't remember if I liked going back or not. But I sure know that my Mom loved it, LOL.
ReplyDeleteKind of miss those long days, and extra sleep of our youth.

I'm thinking a champagne brunch sounds wonderful--even though I don't drink. Another idea would be mani/pedis and a massage!
ReplyDeleteLove this post. Even now the smell of a September morning reminds me of returning to school after the big summer break.
ReplyDeleteI'm a WUSS!!
ReplyDeleteI was the mom who didn't like the kids going back...my husband was a teacher and they all left me tuesday morning!...but I did survive...really well!
ReplyDeleteI would LOOOOVE a champagne brunch. Bring momma a mimosa! YUM! I'm pretty sure I'll be a basket case when Emma leaves me for Kinder in a few years.
ReplyDeleteNot being a mum I never had these worries myself, but I'm liking the sound of the Champagne brunch!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by earlier.

Hi Girlfriend...
ReplyDeleteJust read your sweet note and wanted to come over to say hi! Hope my note is finding you and your family all doing well, Darlin'!
Love this song by the Kinks...haven't heard it in ages! It came out the year I graduated! Hehe! Oh my gosh, I remember my parents and grandparents always telling me to "enjoy school, it is the best time of your life"! and I would scoff! Eeeks...I find myself saying those same words to my grandkids now!
Our little local school started class the 21st of Aug., but I remember that we always started school after Labor Day (when I was a kid).
Well dear friend, so glad that you stopped by today! Sure enjoyed your visit and sweet note! Take care...
Love ya,
Chari
My kids are happily going out to school (they love it) and I'm down in the dumps at being alone again! :P Sweet post!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
I remember buying school supplies for my two. Boy, that seems such a long time ago! Before you know it, my nearly two year old grand-daughter will be the one going to class for the first time.
