I have opened an umbrella in the house to let it dry and have a son who was born on the 13th of the month. I love Friday 13th. Not the movies but the day.ladder flickr.com/photos/archiemcphee/3276556643/
I have given a knife as a gift without a coin attached to it and given a purse without money in it. My poor mother...no wonder she had a sore back...I stepped on many a sidewalk crack. Okay if when I get a shiver up my back it means someone is walking on my grave I think my bigger problem is that I am dead not that someone is walking on my grave.
Itchy nose means I'll kiss a fool. I'll tell my husband that one. Itchy right palm means I am getting money, itchy left means I am giving money. This reminds me I need some hand lotion.
Unlucky to wear opals unless you were born in October. Whew I am okay on that one. I'm an October baby and have a few opal pieces of jewelery.
rabbits foot commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rabbitsfoot.jpg
Rabbits foot is lucky. Ya ask the rabbit how he feels about that one. I wonder what rabbits do for good luck to avoid becoming a talisman for some silly human? Only eat clover while facing south?
Shoes on the table bring bad luck. Damned right if you put them on my table because I will smack you one.So what about you? Are you superstitious? What makes you say a little verse to ward off bad luck?

I don't think I'm particularly superstitious, but I WOULD like to know how YOU got MY Grandma's shoes on your table!?! Especially since she's been dead and gone since the late 60's!!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy Mom says a Hat on the bed will bring Death. I've put many a hat on the bed...She goes crazzzzy if she sees it.
ReplyDeleteLori,
ReplyDeleteLOL this is a great post! How are you????? Haven't heard from you for a while, about the superstitions....I try not to get into these, I have a real tendency towards OCD and these kind of thoughts aren't good for me.....silly I know, but hey, I am who I am! :)
I remember we had a Polish family living next door to us, and they totally believed that is a dog sat in front of your house and howled someone was dead in your family....YUK! Sandy
My Italian side is super superstitious! A black crossing the street means a u-turn right there and there, even if it is a one-way street! Yeah, that would be my uncle. :-)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about the shoes on the table! :)
ReplyDeleteI always say "knock on wood" but I don't even stop and think about it.
If black birds gather at a window, the person who sleeps in that room will die soon. Usually within the month.
ReplyDeleteSome things I will not do....like the ladder thing...but, I have broken a zillion mirrors and spill salt daily...so I guess I am not superstitious realy...LOL ! Good post !
ReplyDeleteKammy
I like to think I'm not very superstitious, but I also don't want to tempt fate. The right palm itching means you'll receive money, but if you scratch the itch, say bye bye to the moola.
ReplyDeleteLove it all - especially the last one -- LMAO!!!
ReplyDeleteI am not superstitious, but when my friend wanted to take an earlier flight home from Houston, I said no because what if that was the one time the plane went down! Otherwise, black cats, broken mirrors, ladders--it's all ok.
ReplyDeleteIt took years of growing up to not worry about "stepping on a crack will break your mother's back". I have given up being superstitious, other wise I would be doomed to have millions of years of bad luck for all the mirrors I have broken. lol
ReplyDeleteGreat post and lots of fun.
I'm not that superstitious I guess. I love black cats and my nose itches all the time and I don't get many kisses, by fools or otherwise. LOL. I do get weird about "jinxing" myself by speaking of good luck, though, and knock on wood (or just say it).
ReplyDeleteOh no.... I'm the 13th comment!!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI think you just hit every single superstition that my mother instilled in me when I was a kid. I can't say I believe in them, but I never want to tempt fate either.
Great post!
Missed you while I was away again.
can't wait to do some catching up!!
Hey friend.......No I'm not really superstitious; but that rabbit's foot looks mighty attractive.
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for stopping by....it was good to hear from you.
Blessings,
Jo

I'm lovin' this post, very interesting! My grandma was Cherokee Indian so I grew up with a lot of folklore. It didn't stick though, I'm not superstitious!
