So we were sitting in Zenberry Coffee Shop as usual this morning when I suddenly noticed all of the pendant lights above us were swinging back and forth. We looked around and saw that all the perimeter lights were swinging too.
We were right next to the train tracks but we all agreed no train had gone by. It went on for quite some time. There was no feeling of movement anywhere else. Just the ominous swinging lights. Apparently I had "eyes as big as pool balls" while sitting in my usual seat, furthest back in the corner of the shop. There are 3 stories of condominiums above us. Yikes.
Apparently it was a 6.6 magnitude earthquake a ways north of us and down our coastline. No damages or injuries anywhere as far as I know. Either it was the earthquake or we really need to lay off the caffeine.
A strong 6.6 magnitude earthquake occurred early Tuesday Nov. 17, 2009 in the Queen Charlotte Islands region (as indicated in map) off of B.C.'s central west coast, according to Earthquakes Canada.

I know the feeling well. It happened fairly often while we were living in Mexico. There is absolutely NO sensation like it! Hope you enjoyed the "ride". And I also hope it is a rare and undamaging occurance in the future.
I think I was driving but that must have been a heck of a roller to be felt almost 1300km away.

Yikes! An earthquake? I assume that doesn't happen in your part of the world much. I would have chalked it up to too much expresso and promised to cut down! Hope you have a great week! Kathy

Wow! That's spooky! I don't want to experience an earthquake - seems to unpredictable & without warning! At least when we get hurricanes - we get like a weeks notice. Glad no one was hurt!
This description sent chills up my spine! And to think that I felt bad when I was younger that the "big ones" didn't hit California until after I had moved away.

Wow--You had better lay off of such strong coffee!! A long time ago when I visited Japan, they were always having quakes--s bit un-nerving to say the least.

We woke up to a minor quake here in Ohio 2 years ago. OH does NOT get quakes, so it was really spooky! I thought I was dreaming. Thanks for being a sweet friend, Lucy- hugs, Ethel
Lori-Glad all is okay. I am sitting on the New Madrid Fault--they tell us a ticking time bomb--at least in next 1000 years :) Yes, it was spray paint--and I rolled the top of the table with a roller. I did not give details, because it was embarassingly easy :)

Nothing like a little excitement to fill in those pesky spaces between heartbeats.
I would assume it was the coffee, too. But hey! You survived to tell the tale. Sounds like quite a ride.
That is frightening Lucy. I am glad that there was no harm done. They have a simulated earthquake experience at Disney. Scared the crap out of me.

Earthquakes are scary no doubt about it. I loved in NV right on the fault line and we had tremors all the time. Moved in Chicago and we had a small earthquake in 1986. I knew what it was immediately but nothing was on the news.
Called the police and they thought I was some sort of kook. But the hair was standing up on my dog and cat so I knew I was not imagining it.
Finally, abt 9 pm on the news they announced Chicago had had an earthquake..just a little one, but still scared me.

i've been in one earthquake that i was aware of...as a kid...i thought it was AWESOME. kids! LOL.
When i was in England (a long time ago ) we had an earth tremor,all the cups and plates rattled and we felt as if we were on a boat when we stood up.We had a very large aquarium built into a wall,we did not think we had any damage from the quake untill several hours later when we found the carpet swimming with water and the fish floundering at the bottom of the tank.The tank had cracked in half,we did manage to save most of the fish by putting them in the bath untill we could replace the tank.
