So American Idol star Adam Lambert kissed a male musician in the band right on the mouth. I know!!! Right on the lips! Now CBS blurred it out but less than a minute later they showed footage of when Madonna kissed Brittany on the lips a while back. (photo from: http://www.newprophecy.net/madonna.htm)
I think this is such a double standard fueled by homophobia. Girl on girl is hot but guy on guy is not allowed. DOUBLE STANDARD. What do you think?
I really want to make it clear I am not talking about whether or not his performance was explicit or inappropriate. I am ONLY referring to the double standard that I believe took place.
Here is what I believe.... It's NOT the kiss... it IS the girations or oral sexual behaviour that upset so many, including myself. I support same sex relationships BUT I don't want to see ANY couple making out to be quite honest.
ReplyDeleteSo, it's not the kissing.... It's the other part of his routine.
Hugs
Tammy
Yes I can agree with that but it was the kiss they blocked out then they showed the one with the women. Or so I am told.
ReplyDeleteI think it is definitely a double standard. However, if I wanted to see this stuff I could rent it. It is all shock effect. Adam Lambert was all for that the minute IDOL was over. Too bad he can't just continue with his singing talent, but I don't think he will leave it at that.

Lori, you have to include the explicit to have an honest debate on this. People were agast when the three blondes kissed as they were with adam. But the shock moment came BEFORE the kiss. He was explicit and it set the stage for "what else is he going to pull"... see?
ReplyDeleteIf it were JUST a kiss... no biggie. But it wasn't JUST... it was far more. Soft porn if you will and I agree with blondie, I can rent that if I wanted it in my house.
I dont' think you can fairly seperate the two in this case.
The show... um.... tweens... the hills??? dont' quote me, there was a same sex kiss there as well and there was very little uproar about it.
I truly believe it is the OTHER content that really upset so many.
Tammy
TOTAL double standard!! And it's one of many:
ReplyDeleteA son loses his virginity at sixteen and daddy shrugs his shoulders, but a daughter does the same thing and daddy is lookin for the shot gun!
A man chooses to be single and focus on his career and he's a "bachelor" or "playboy" while women get stuck with "spinster" and "Old maid"
Drives me nuts!
Just back into the blogging scene after a huge break. Having fun catching up on your blog :-)
Happy Thanksgiving :-)
BUT they didn't blur the other parts of the act that were sexual, just the male/male kiss. That is the point I am making. I totally agree that it was offensive from what you have told me.
ReplyDeleteBlock out the oral sex reference or the gyrations or all of it but don't just pick the kiss and blur it out then within a minute or so show the clip of Madonna and Brittany.
That is my issue is that they blocked the guys and showed the girls. Not whether any of it was appropriate or not.
I didn't see it but I cant imagine he did anything worse than what we are bombarded with on TV anyway, So GMA can yank his appearance but not the guests who appear in provocative movies or tv shows? Please. I didn't even know who this man was before this.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was only blocked out in certan areas as here we saw the entire act from his girations, to his girl going up the pole, to the oral sexual giration to the kiss to the going back the another dancer... etc....I'm in indiana so we often do get the blackouts that can happen.
ReplyDeleteBUT, I will give you this.. is there a double standard i general YES YES YES... a resounding yes....
In sexual instances.... well the ama's... i'm not sure qualifies but... in other genres... yes....
in school.... men can wear pants down their arse but gals can't wear belly shirts...
in medicine.. did you know female patients are behind care about 7 years compared to men....
I must have misunderstood Lori so I apologize. I didn't realize you meant as a whole.... we were not black out and that is what I was going on.
We just started daylight savings two years ago so there you go.
Hugs and peace...
tammy
Oh another thing in case you didn't realize.. all of the LEGIT videos have been pulled from you tube. Only the one's that are "underground" can be found.... very strange...
ReplyDeleteTammy I was looking on YouTube and couldn't find it. How did you know?
ReplyDeleteI do see your point about the inappropriateness as a whole. These shows are geared towards younger people and the parents often drop the ball when it comes to what they allow to be shown in their homes and what can't.
I shall just say, totally inappropriate, and hope I spelled it correctly.
ReplyDeleteI do agree it is nasty but once again my only point is that they re-broadcast Madonna/Brittany kissing right after blocking out his kiss. I have no argument about the nature of his performance my issue is with the double standard shown by displaying the women kissing and blocking the image of the men kissing.
ReplyDeleteBy the way if we forget about the kiss remember that the awards show had seen rehearsals of the performance ahead of time and could have done something about it then but they went for the ratings. Now they will cry foul.
I saw it all. I liked Adam on Idol, I knew he was "different", but I like him.
ReplyDeleteWatching the "AMA's" is always interesting isn't it? If you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen. Something controversial always comes out of the closet on that evening. Keeps everyone on their toes, & i always find better things to think about than what the media has to say.
Love the debate Lori

I didn't find any of it offensive Lori. Over choreographed more like. Totally agree Lori about your double standards comment - it is homophobia, plain and simple despite all denials to the contrary. His 'gyrations' etc were way tamer than what we see on every second R and B video. Pushing the dancer towards his crotch was as bad as it got in my opinion but even that was laughable.
ReplyDeleteYuck is all I have to say to all of it. Yes, it's a double standard but none of it should have been shown. It's not homophobia. If that were the case then the Brittany/Madonna thing wouldn't be OK either.
ReplyDeleteQuite frankly, I think Adam just blew his musical respectability by pulling this stunt. He knew people would be offended but did it anyway. He has a great voice and great talent but now his antics are overshadowing that just because he wanted to make a statement. Fame at any cost? Just ask all the has-beens how that worked for them.
What happened to keeping private moments private? Why must innocent bystanders/viewers be subject to inappropriate displays of affection?
ReplyDeleteKeep it behind closed doors.
Okay, here's what I think. I know, you probably don't care, but still, here it is. :)
ReplyDeleteI think the guy on guy kiss was gross.
I think the girl on girl kiss was gross.
I'm immature like that.
I think it absolutely was a double standard.
HOWEVER, AMA's are on national TV right? Wasn't the Britney/Madonna kiss on MTV, which is cable? I have no clue. So if I'm saying an untruth, just tell me cuz I'm lost.
Double standard, I guess yes. But it was the rest of it that was "inappropriate"!! I liked Adam on "Idol" and the kid could sing but you know, his voice didn't even sound that good on the AMA's! Maybe he should cut down on the screaming a little before he wrecks his voice altogether!! The whole show was just weird to me and there were only a couple things I liked. After his performance, I won't bother watching it again! As for Adam, he went for the shock value and even though people are talking, I think it backfired badly.
ReplyDeleteA girl/guy face smash to the groin would sicken me just as much as Adam's display.
ReplyDeleteSo would a girl/guy full face slobber kiss.
The entire performance seemed rushed, as though AL couldn't get enough perversion into his three minutes.
