I have. A living, breathing hummingbird.
It flew in my back door and I thought it was once again a dragonfly. The big albatross like dragonflies come through the house often in the summer time.
When I went to retrieve it from the window ledge I saw it was an amazing little hummingbird and it just sat there while I picked it up and carried it outside. I could feel it's warmth in my hand but it had no weight. When I opened my hand up it just sat for half a second then it burst off into the sky. What a feeling that was. I am now one of the few people in the world who can say they have held a live hummingbird in their hands.
p.s. I posted a comment about this at Rosehaven Cottage and realized I should also write about this here.
Wow! I bet that was so surreal!
ReplyDeleteMr. B had that happen to him one time. The tiny creature was trapped in the peak of a covered walkway. Mr. B climbed up on a ladder and put out his finger and the hummingbird landed on it. It then sat there and rested while he climbed back down the ladder. Finally the bird flew away. I'm still amazed by this and think that people who wild animals trust like that are very special indeed!
ReplyDeleteI bet that was amazing! WOW!
ReplyDeleteVery surreal. I won't ever forget it. Did I ever tell you about the Stellars Jay in the living room? Hmmm. Maybe I am a bird lady.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful thing to hold Lori.It must have been wonderful for you.
ReplyDeleteI wait each summer for the hummingbirds to arrive....plant flowers that will attract them....hummingbird feeders abound....It is always a special day when I see one. I can't even imagine what it would be like to actually hold one!
