In September 2007, while driving through the Italian countryside in Tuscany, my husband and I came upon a winery. We stopped the vehicle to go in and were met by an aging Italian gentleman who spoke not one word of English. He said “Vino” and we said “Si” and an understanding was formed. He showed us a few bottles of his wine and invited us to taste them. We asked which one was his preferito and he showed us a bottle of Apoteosi. It was an amazing full bodied very rich wine. We didn't realize at the time but it was bottled in 1997 and you can only imagine that it does get better with age. Since coming home, my husband and I have emailed this winery and ordered several cases from them. We save it for very special occasions and very special friends.
This is Lori again...I was very lucky to sample this wine at Linda's home on Friday. The winery bottles this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese grapes only in years when it has been an exceptionally good harvest. 1997 was one of those years. It is a wine that ages well and should not be opened until it is a least five years old.
It has a lovely vanilla scent from the oak barrels it is aged in.
The more I drink that wine the more I love that wine, Getting to spend time with our dear friends Linda and Steve this is the bonus.
