How many of these do you remember doing?
Spool knitting? Making that long cord of wool. What did you do with the cord you made? Coiled it into a mat of some sort? Hard to find wooden spools today in order to make one.
Did you ever make these? I can still remember what the liquid plastic smelled like. You would make your wire petals and then dip them into the plastic to make the thin flower petals.
I had some Fuzzy Wuzzy soap once. You would wash your hands with it and then leave it to sit and it would grow “hair”. Seriously what was that stuff growing on the soap? What sort of chemical additive did that? No, no don’t tell me.
The back pages of the comic books and magazines were always interesting. You could hypnotize people, you could see through clothes with X-Ray Specs.
You could create your own miniature world filled with little Sea Monkeys.
Bet those smelled really bad since they were really Brine Shrimp. Ugh.
Last but not least how about the Tri Chem Liquid Embroidery products. How much fun was that. Of course it cost a fortune to get enough colours to do anything other than a candy cane or a lemon. I’ll bet some of you still have some napkins or pillow cases decorated with Liquid Embroidery.
I have a lot more memories for you but it is 3:00 am here (don’t ask) and I am going to try to get back to sleep since I get up for work in 2 1/2 hours. I hope I have brought some fun memories back for you.
Oh my gosh, I just love this! Glad to see someone else finds these as fascinating as I do. And I had forgotten all about the Fuzzy Wuzzies. I love when another blast from the past is brought back to memory. I have many fond memories of reading the ads in the back of the comic books. They were always so fun. We used to purchase little wax bags full of postage stamps for our stamp collections from those ads, among some of the other items. I love me some nostalgia. Thanks for posting this. I just wrote about an old rotary phone on my blog. Stop by and check it out!
ReplyDeleteThe only ones of these I remember are Tri Chem (which I never did, but I do remember the craze) and sea monkeys. (which we did grow brine shrimp when hubby had a salt water aquarium)
ReplyDeleteI had the spool thingy, my grandpop would make them. I remember trying to make a hat:@)
ReplyDeleteGirl I'm so old I remember them all ha ha!! and yes I still have some of the Tri Chem..Hope you have a great day..get some sleep..Hugs and smiles Gloria
ReplyDeleteAmazing memories - how neat to look back at them.
ReplyDeleteOne of my Aunts was the trichem queen, paintings, quilts, pillow cases, glass jars, if it sat still, it was covered in gook. We had those flower petals, that's probably where the severe environmental allergies started lol. Soap that grew hair? Yuck, most likely found in every bathroom anyways, laughing.
ReplyDeleteHope you got to sleep OK, too much stress?

Liquid embroidery?? Weird!
ReplyDeleteAs a general rule, hairy soap should be tossed. ;)
I remember the back of the comic book things, but the others must be Canadian!
ReplyDeleteAll these are new to me, except the xray specs and sea monkeys. Interesting though.
ReplyDeleteYep, remember the Sea monkeys and the Dip in Flowers - could do with some of them now for my miniatures!
ReplyDeletehaha so cute! Not that I know any of that, still! Sea monkeys! >:D
ReplyDeleteHugs,
