Have you ever looked up your doctor on a “rate my doctor” website? I just looked up mine.I have been going to the same physician for 24 years. I switched to her when pregnant with my second child as the hospital in Vancouver was too far away to chance what could be a rapid entry of a second born.
I knew I wanted a female doctor and my doctor at the time (male) did not personally know anyone to recommend out in my area.
I took to the phone book and started calling. All the female doctors were not taking new patients or if they were they were not taking maternity patients. Finally a kind receptionist gave me the name of a doctor in my area who was taking new patients.
One phone call later I had booked an appointment. Off I went on the appointed day with my almost 4 year old in tow. We were in a tiny office that was full of people. My son decided that the body builders in the room would make great new friends and was chatting away with them.
We waited quite a while but when we got in I was smitten. She was perfect.
She was relaxed, interested, thorough and so very smart.
Well she was not in town when my baby was due but she gave me great care right up until then. One of her colleagues delivered him but since then she has been our doctor. She moved to a bigger office in the same building and we didn’t see the body builders again. She is very busy and it can take some time to get in. She doesn’t push prescriptions on you, she doesn’t hesitate to send you to a specialist or send you for tests. If you feel something is wrong she believes you. She doesn’t say wait and see but takes some sort of action. She listens. She volunteers working with women with substance abuse problems.
She also takes time off to live her life and reenergize herself. She scuba dives all over the world. An award winning photographer with many underwater shots with the Discovery Channel buying some of her video footage on sea turtles. Oh yes, she also captains a ship. Yup. A certified marine captain for ships up to 60 tons. Her ratings on this site were so high without a single negative comment. It rates out of 5 and she had many people wanting to give her a higher rating than that. She rocks.
So there must be something wrong…and yes there is…she is close to my age and will likely retire when I need her the most. Nooooooo.
I identify, except my favorite doctor has already retired and I have not been able to make myself get another one. Life. (rolling eyes)
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer! It's hard to find the perfect doctor, so you've really lucked out all these years. Perhaps she won't retire too soon.
ReplyDeleteIt is so cool when you finally "connect" with a doctor. Mine is a little older than me and I dread the day she retires.
ReplyDeleteI envy you! A good doc? At least you know that she'll take care of her health and maybe wont retire too soon? LOL Im happy for yah! :)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Hi Lori...
ReplyDeleteI sure enjoyed your post, my friend! Hmmm...I never knew you could find out a Drs. rating...will have to check mine out now...I'm sooo curious! Thanks for the tip! Sounds like you have found the perfect Dr. for you...so very important! I must admit...I hate going to the Drs. and end up spending way to much time doing so! Between high blood pressure and fibromylgia..need I say more? Hehe! Sooo awesome that your Dr. is also a talented photographer...very interesting!
Well my dear friend, I just wanted to come over to say hello and see how you are doing! I sure enjoyed your visit and sweet note that you left on my Sunday Favorites "Mama's Brag Book" post! Thanks for coming by, dear lady! Sure hope that my note is finding you and your family all doing well!
Warmest spring wishes,
Chari
It is so nice to read an uplifting post on physicians instead of the usual bashing. Your doctor sounds not only professional but a very caring individual, which is probably why she went into the profession. I'm married to one such doctor! I think he's the best of course. He was a Physician Assistant before he went back to med school. He doesn't have his own practice yet but will soon. Hopefully, there are some younger people coming up that will take the place of those retiring. There are a lot of good doctors out there. So glad you found one!
