Well once again I came out to the deck in the morning to find this. This is my little water feature that is in an old laundry tub. There is only about 3 inches of water in it there. There were 6 little goldfish in there two weeks ago and then I was down to 4 of them. Friday morning there were none. ZERO. NADA, ZIP.
The water spout had been pulled back enough so that the water poured out of the watering can instead of back into the tub. Sigh.
The raccoons ate all my little fishies but luckily the pump is still working even though it ran all night without any water. I give up. No more goldfish.
Time for a metamorphosis.
I pulled out all the stuff that was in there. Some reddish water grass, a pot with a little pond lily in it. Some quartz pieces and some water hyacinths.
I made a shelf with the flat quartz pieces resting on overturned pots and covered it with river rock that I already had.
The wooden duck is a fun piece. There is a man who fashions these out of pieces of driftwood and leaves them on picnic tables in campgrounds throughout B.C. for people to take home. We "found" ours many years ago.
No more fish for me. The plants will grow in a bit more and the lovely sound of trickling water will run through the summer.

Those raccoons will sure get to the fish. Also some birds will get them. I love that old tub used for a water feature.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job, it looks lovely, and those darn raccoons... honestly, I hate them.
ReplyDeleteI can't have any water on my deck at all, and how I miss it. Bootsie is worth more to me then a water feature, and it attracts raccoons, so we don't use it anymore.
They even turned over my huge plastic 3 foot container every night, rocks and all, until I got rid of it. No fish, no plants, just water, single minded creeps.
Good luck with your new one, I love the look, and the sounds.

I think the raccoons LIKE to keep the score 6 them, 0 us!!
ReplyDeleteUgh, I really don't like raccoons. I'm having major issues with bunnies this year. In fact, I caught one in my garden today and war has officially been declared.
ReplyDeleteI really like your water feature! Very cute :)
Too bad for the fish. At least you salvaged it all and created a lovely water feature. Let's hope those naughty raccoons leave that alone and not look for fish.
ReplyDeleteIt really looks so lovely! What a great job, though too bad for the fishy! I really love how this looks, kudos to you~

I like your new fountain and love the sound of trickling water! How cool about the gentleman that makes the driftwood ducks, that's quite a find-enjoy!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful water feature.
ReplyDeleteI had my own battle with raccoons years ago when I was a caretaker at a farm/bed & breakfast. Unfortunately, during my experience, I was all too aware of what was going on since the raccoons were going after chickens and pulling their entrails out. It was horrible. Recently a friend had them coming in a doggie door and eating cat food. They sure are cute looking, but I'd rather not have to deal with them in or around my home.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences on your fish, but the fountain looks nice regardless.
That's beautiful, Lori!!
ReplyDeleteStupid raccoons. :(
It is a good thing raccoons are cute....
ReplyDeleteSorry about the fish.
One day we want to have a small pond or water feature.
Thanks for visiting and for your comment.

ReplyDeletePoor little fishies! I feel for you....it does get so aggravating. We live in the woods but don't have much problem from the coons it is the deer. They eat all my rose buds! I am about to claim an all out war. I go out every night and sprinkle baby powder or some stinky old 10 year old perfume or grate some Irish Spring in an attempt to change things up and keep them guessing. Deer don't like change and it scares them. So far my methods aren't working! LOL
Good luck
Oh I added your link to my blog!

I'm sorry about your fish, those raccoons are major pests around here also. I do love your water feature, the watering can is such a cute spout. Right now I'm doing battle with squirrels. They are winning :( Kat
ReplyDeleteJust popped over from Between Naps on the Porch. I'm sorry about your fish, but your water feature is so lovely! It has a very tranquil feel about it with those river rocks. And that duck is wonderful! :)
ReplyDeleteOhhh we had that happen years ago (when we still had our house) ...the raccoons ate our koi, our expensive snails that were supposed to keep the pond algae-free, AND all of the plants -- and they dragged the pump out by the wires.
ReplyDeleteHmm....maybe that's the day we decided to sell out and become full-time RVers. ;>))
Lori, Your transformation is fantastic!! I love what you did to this tub and love the watering can as a pump. Sorry I've been absent lately. I am so busy trying to get cleaning done. I kinda missed "spring" cleaning. Gee, I wonder why. Mr. S is doing so much better. He danced up a storm at our niece's wedding 2 weeks ago. yea!
