I don’t know what it is about this time of year but it makes me nest. It makes me want to cook and bake and rearrange.
I know it is technically still summer but I am in full Fall mode already.
I am snuggled in a soft throw because we still have the windows open and the rooms are chilly in the morning. During the sunny days we still need a fan on to move the hot air.
The biggest indicator for me that we are in for a change of seasons is that I want to cook. I want to have thing premade in my freezer to take out at a moments notice. I want to stock up for the rough winter ahead like a squirrel…..except where I live winters, though rainy are not that tough and the grocery stores are minutes away.
Yesterday, on my day off , I made 2 trays of my famous meatballs. That is 70 large meatballs. Click here to see how to make some for yourself.
Then I made 2 meat loaves that went directly into the freezer.
Since I was in Fall mode I also made a giant pot of stew. This simmered away all afternoon and I thought we would be up until midnight trying to get it cooled down enough to put in the fridge overnight.
Next nesting binge will likely include pumpkins and a good amount and sugar…..the possibilities are endless.
Do you get the urge to cook in the fall? To bring out warm, cozy blankets and things that smell of pumpkin spices.
I have been feeling the same way as you, Lori. And when I read a post like this, it inspires me more. I think we all look forward to nesting when the weather gets cooler. I love the smell of something simmering on the stove or baking in the oven! I remember your meatball recipe...I have to copy it. It sounds like a great thing to make and freeze.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week! :)

Oh yea, all the fall cooking is fine, it's all the eating I'm beginning to worry about:@)
ReplyDeleteYes, I love how you called it Nesting, instead of gaining weight, lol.
ReplyDeleteNo, honestly I know what you mean, and add crafting to the list, I feel so much more creative in the end of summer.
I have the feeling that those dishes you premade are going to taste pretty good.

ReplyDeleteHugs,
Yes, indeed! Every approach to autumn gets me in the mood to bake cookies and pull out my slow cooker. I'm so looking forward to our Texas heat to cool down, and the fall to sweep right in. :)
