I have reached the point in life where I am out of touch with what is going on in Hollywood. Now that can be a good thing but it makes me think of my mom and much as I loved her I don't want to be her. I don't want to Sing Along With Mitch or find out what Marcus Welby is up to.

I am not a big fan of many actors. I don't like sappy movies, corny movies or love stories. I don't like animated movies. I don't like most of what is out there. I don't care. With the announcement of another Hollywood marriage recently I thought about how little I care and how I couldn't have named either one of the stars.

I don't know who is the vampire and who is the werewolf in all those movies. DON'T TELL ME CAUSE I DON'T REALLY CARE. I don't think they are hunky, or hot. I think they look like children. Petulant, spoiled children. Image via Wikipedia
I hear the news about which stars have died and think "they weren't that old". I think of all the movies and shows they had been in during their long careers. I point out some of the older actors that have small roles in current movies and my son is surprised to know they were big stars in their day. Does every generation feel this way? Did our parents think that about Rock Hudson? Raymond Burr? How about Betty White? She is living her life to the fullest with a new found fame among the younger generation. She is one of my favorites and is a potty mouth just like me.

Who do you see in current roles that had great star power years back? What do you think of the newest crop of badly behaved "stars"? If you liked a post please click on the SU button to stumble it.
Ahh our favourite curmudgeon has spoken. Which is funny because that is the last way I would describe the person I have met up close and personal.
ReplyDeleteI admire the Paul Newman's of the "star" world -- those that are quietly elegant, giving, had long lasting loves and of course so damn easy on the eyes.
I'm afraid I have no idea what films are out on release, I can't understand why people buy these magazines for huge amounts of money to see what the stars are up to (what a waste of money) and have no idea who the wedding is for that you have mentioned.... Perhaps there is something to be said for not knowing what's going on, at least I feel that I must have filled my days with other things of more importance? Who knows? J x
ReplyDeleteIf the current crop of "entertainment" that's on tv and movies is any indication, I'd say the human race is devolving. That or I'm just getting too old to "geddit", as the kids say. The perpetual intrusion of the media into every aspect of a public figure's life is just plain boring now. I don't doubt the stars of old behaved just as scandalously, it simply wasn't reported on. In fact, it was often hushed up because it could ruin your career, rather than promote it. Which seems to be case now.
ReplyDeleteI'm in England, where the celeb worship thing is as out of control as it sounds to be in North America. What astounds me is that "celebrity" is a viable "career option". Completely talentless, stupid people can make a damn good living from doing little more than pimping out every detail of their pathetic little lives to the gutter press. What's worse, the public are happy to pay for it. I can't decide which is worse, the former or the latter.
You must not have to wait in line at the grocery store by the magazines. I glance, cause I am bored. I am right with you though, cause I don't know or care. After Brad Pit, I lost track. I listen and I get shown and I agree, that child is cute. When I go to the beauty shop or on break, I have a chance to look, but do I, no, I read oprah. However, others are the same about hgtv and genealogy.
ReplyDeleteYour posts are great.
I'm with all of the above, and why do people worship them anyways.
ReplyDeleteWho's a vampire, and WHY is this so pertinent to our society nowadays? Oh, my...I'm feeling my age.
Hey, dare I say there are no predators for those stinking seagulls, and honestly if you could hear them at 2 am you would be thinking about finding one for them also. They are really overwhelming us, I need a turbo fan to drown them out now.

I fit most of what you say, and I'm quite young still. Honestly the reason I don't care is it's all so trivial. It shocks me how much other's pay attention to it though. Friends name off all of these actors and all the details of their lives, yet they stare at you blankly when you ask them their opinion on the census uproar. Is this really where peoples priorities are? In the finer details of other peoples lives?
ReplyDeleteOh my, I do get carried away. I forgot the golden rule of life, it's not polite to talk politics in public.... but did you know who so and so is sleeping with? ;)
Right, I don't care about all the stuff that goes on with these young so called stars and singers! And for goodness sake, why on earth are they even talking about it on CNN and other "news" channels!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, Betty White is a hoot. Now there's a star! The stars of my generation were different than today. The good ones will live on in our memories unlike the ones that are having their 15 minutes of fame.
