MET MONDAY AND MOSAIC MONDAY - I REMEMBER WHEN

I have combined a couple of memes here today. The obvious one being Mosaic Monday hosted by Mary @ Little Red House. Not so obvious is that this is also for Metamorphosis Monday hosted by Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch.

In an email earlier today I was discussing a previous post  and that our newspapers used to come in the afternoons after school was out so the kids could deliver them. Now they are dropped off by an adult, driving a car, at about 3 in the morning. It reminded me of other changes that have gone through the years.

My youngest son who is almost 23 years old now was in a vehicle once with manual roll down windows. He had never seen them before and didn't know how to put down the window. We were amazed. It never occurred to us that in his lifetime he had only seen power windows.

Our other son is almost 27. He was fascinated by the fact that our old vinyl records had music on both sides of them unlike the cds of his generation with all the music on the one side.

We have also had great changes is other areas. Fingerprints though still used are not nearly as valuable as DNA is. Did you know rabbit ears are making a comeback?  I wonder if we can still use the remote control though.
Not only do our phones travel with us now they are also capable of doing things that our computers do too.
As for the last metamorphosis in the mosaic...well some earlier versions work a little better than the new ones do.

Make sure you visit some of the other sites and join in too. It is a great way to meet new bloggers.

Hey don't go yet...did you leave me a note?

  2. Oh goodness! So true! I was just telling my daughter the other day that when I first got married we would go to the video store to rent a movie AND the VCR. They were just out and no one owned one then. She thought I was telling tall tales! Haha! Now all the video stores are closing. Ahhh...evolution.

  3. When my oldest daughter was in her early 20s, she bought an older car and drove it for months thinking she couldn't dim her lights. She'd never driven a car that had the dimmer switch on the floor rather than the steering column. We still laugh about that.

Hey, I didn't know that records had another side...guess I never thought about it. And my parents had a record player too, they just didn't play it much...?

  6. My family was just discussing the other day that the universal motion for roll down the window is a a cranking motion. So we were wonder if we don't roll down windows anymore what should the new motion be for roll down the window. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Yep, time marches on!
I wonder if they still clean the erasers in school.
First we used to clap them, and inhale all the dust..
Then the kids used to take them down to the custodian to use the vacuum..but they were always sent back dirty as they were too busy! So out the window we clapped them!

  8. So true Lori. Our "paperboy" is an adult who zips through the neighborhood at 4:30 in the morning (I hear him every morning as I'm pouring my first cup of coffee) in one of those little Japanese cars with the annoying high pitched exhaust. Cait has always been familiar with vinyl, she's probably one of the few kids of her generation who uses a turntable for it's intended purpose, not to "scratch"! Technology really is amazing, and it does seem to be changing even faster than it used to. Wonder what the next 30 years will hold? Fun post! Kathy

  10. Yes, there have been so many changes in my lifetime. I am not sure what to call a new music release ~ and album or a cd or what?? Some changes are wonderful and make life so much easier but everything seems to be moving faster. I must admit though, I do love being able to have music at my fingertips all the time. With that "power" in my hands, I can make the world slow down and relax whenever I need to.

  12. Oh wow what a hoot. I too for the longest time in my new old car kept reaching for the window handles and never did find them. I still don't care for the power switch to be honest. BUT, I do liek cd's. They take up much less space. Hugs. Tammy

  17. my first contact with a computer was a huge humming machine that filled a room that had to be temperature controlled and smoke free. Slight difference to the hand held ones of today that hold even more information.let alone the INTERNET

  22. That's funny about your son and roll down car windows, sugar. We recently purchased a new Tacoma truck and it doesn't have power "ANYTHING" and I had to roll down the window and hubby had to lean across to unlock the door for me to get in. Very different from the last 10 years with power everything on the car. ;-)
