Chari @ Happy to Design is our host for Sunday Favorites once again. This is number 28. Sunday Favorites lets us show an older post that our new readers may not have seen. Ideally it also gives us the day off other than checking out other blogs for their Sunday Favorites. Join in.
This was originally posted March 8th, 2009 when it was time to set our clocks forward so I thought it was appropriate to post it now when we are setting our clocks back one hour.
Whose idea was this? Making me get up an hour earlier. Did it start with Ben Franklin like I have heard or was it William Willett. It didn't go over well back then and still today people grumble. Now my coffee buddy EW is correct that WWII had something to do with it but that was after the previous two clowns got it started in Great Britain. The energy saving benefits of Summer Time were recognized during World War II. Clocks in Britain were put two hours ahead of GMT during the summer. This became known as Double Summer Time. During the war, clocks remained one hour ahead of GMT throughout the winter.
Chickens apparently do not like this one bit.
Countries around the equator don't have to have it at all because the days and evenings are always about the same length.
Now I have to figure out what time it is back East so I can phone and not wake someone up. Spring forward 1 hour, 3 hours ahead in their time zone but now 4 but I am ahead 1 hour too so that makes it 3 again and never mind. I am going back to bed.
Cute - so glad we get an extra hour of sleep this time of year :). It's quite possibly my favorite day of the year.
ReplyDeleteOnly in the last year has my part of the state had to change it. I was so used to it changing back east that when I first moved here, I had to break the habit. Then, they change the damn law. good grief.

I don't like that it gets dark an hour earlier..I have to cut short my shopping time. I like to be home by dark!
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks for the reminder! LOL We have been on the go all day today and I totally forgot about changing the clocks
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
You said it, girl!!!
ReplyDeleteCute post. Love your sense of humor. Fall back!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't like this at all. I want it to stay light out. I'm so not doing this... ever again lol
ReplyDeleteI thought they were changing this "time thing". What happen to that?
happy Sunday
Love Claudie

Hi Lori...
ReplyDeleteGreat post, my friend...and so timely! Hehe! Girl, I really dislike this time change...during the winter it's dark by 6pm...but what do you do? Love your photos of the clock mechanisms! So happy that you joined in with the fun of Sunday Favorites again this week...great post and I got a chuckly out of it!
Warmest wishes,
Chari
Hmmmm..."chuckly"? Meant to type "chuckle"! Sheesh...I need to go to bed! Hehe!

I don't mind THIS change as much since we get an "extra" hour of sleep.
ReplyDeleteI just gotta say - - - the INSIDES of old clocks sure are pretty, aren't they?
I wish they would leave it the same!
ReplyDeleteGood post.
I don't care for it, as I prefer more daylight in the evening.
ReplyDeleteAn extra hour of sleep?! I get my 7 hours of sleep and boom- I'm up!! I got up at 5:30 this morning, wondering why one clock said one thing and the dvr clock said another!! So.... made my coffee, ate breakfast and started organizing a messy house. It is now time for a nap and it's not even noon! sheesh.....
ReplyDeleteI hate this time change thing. too dark too early. depressing....
The way I heard it, this DST business was started by some 19th century outdoor enthusiast burk who thought everyone should be up just because he was!

Well Lori, a week on from our clocks changing, and I am still unable to get used to it - well my stomach isn't anyway - or my dogs bladder LOL - thanks for your comment - I am thinking of you, and have left a reply on my blog for you. Jo x
