METAMORPHOSIS MONDAY: NOW I'M COOKIN' WITH GAS

Join in with Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday and all the other participants. You will amazed at all the changes that take place. 

My old stove had some troubles but I have had it for a long time. The convection fan didn't work. The little mesh thingy-ma-bob that fits in the tube that vents the oven was gone and the heat just poured out there. The plastic guide for the oven door had fallen out on one side and it squeals metal on metal when you open the oven door. Not good for my son's midnight pizzas. 

There were also the cosmetic issues with the top that had burned and crackled from the big canning pot on top. See Blubarb Jam or Salsa. Definitely time for a change. 

The glass door was clouded over too. You couldn't see anything inside even with the light on.

I always wanted a gas range and I finally got it. Top and bottom both gas, convection, warming drawer, blah, blah, blah....

I also have moved a few things around in the house and had a great spot for a console table. Off to Home Depot where I had spotted a nice one.

It took 3 hours to put together. My youngest son helped with some of it. 

Don't open the doors because they are not attached yet. 

I really like it there and yes I see the white lamp cord hanging on the floor. Aaargghhh.

WRITER'S CHALLENGE #2 MY FAVORITE MOVIE

I am so glad you have joined me for the second Writer's Challenge. The first one was well received and showed us some very deep emotions. This one was chosen to lighten the mood somewhat but then it occurred to me that the same thing could happen if the movie chosen was one that evoked sadness but was nonetheless a favorite. Regardless of why it is your favorite we all look forward to reading your stories and maybe seeing a movie from a different perspective.

Peter Sellers was nominated for a Golden Globe (won) and Best Actor for an Academy Award for his performance. This was the last film he made before his death.

Chance the Gardener was a simpleton. Growing up in the home of a wealthy man he did chores around the property unless he was busy watching t.v., his only connection to the world outside of the front gate. When the old man dies Chance is literally out in the cold when he leaves the property for the first time in his life with no lifeskills whatsoever.

When he is injured by a limo driver his world takes a most interesting turn. Off he goes to an estate with Shirley MacLaine where he becomes a revered man of great depth and intelligence amonst the political movers and shakers in Washington.

Chance's simple minded statements are often mistaken as humor or confused with deep and profound thoughts. He speaks his mind literally but others interpret it in their own way. When Chance says all he has is the room upstairs that is exactly what he means, a bedroom. The big businessman he is talking to thinks he is refering to death and heaven. 

Most of Chance's brilliant advice is related to what he knows about gardening. It is a perfect metaphor for the political questions that are posed to him. He talks of the roots of the plants and the changing of the seasons and the President thinks he is referring to economic growth in the spring.
 
That is what I love about this movie. It shows how people are so easily swayed. How they thrive on what they think he is saying. They read great wisdom into his innocent observations and it spreads like wild fire. It shows how if you sound like you know what you are talking about then others will follow. 
I think this is such a brilliant movie and the bedroom scene is not to be missed.

It was filmed mostly around the Biltmore House in Asheville, North Carolina. This is such a stunning mansion, a beautiful setting for a movie.

I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from bare footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again.]

After I called your mother, or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I Went and filled up my gas tank as well as four other people's in the gas station on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful! I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go’s, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!] I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.

Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what's going on with that?

Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target. The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.). In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider the career path you've chosen to pursue in life.
