Those who know me know that I usually am all over any new social media that pops up.
I love to use different gadgets on my site and can actually understand the html code. I love to help other bloggers with their questions and problems with their blogs.
There is one area where I feel completely in the dark and that is Pinterest.
I have an account but I don’t know what to do with it. I have looked up some pictures on topics that interest me and they have been great.
I follow some people and some follow me although I have no idea why they would since I really haven’t done anything on there to follow.
I think I need to figure this whole thing out especially because in that big heart that you see on my sidebar Pinterest is one of the choices for you to use.
For bloggers when you Pin an image from your site the Pin will link back to your site no matter how many times someone re-pins it. When I tried this no image showed up. That may be because I have code on my blog that stops people from doing copy & paste of my work/pictures. Will have to look into this one further because I recently heard from a well known blogger who said the traffic to her site from Pinterest is amazing.
There is code you can add to your blog so that your images cannot be pinned. This can be very important to maintain some control of your images etc. although where there is a will there is a way to copy our work.
If someone likes what you have put up they can “re-pin” it and the source code from your site will follow it. Hmmmm that is good right?
Now I see that you can’t pin anything from the button on my blog but if you have the Pin it button on your toolbar for your Internet Browser. It grabs many photos from the page you are on and you get to decide what to show.
If any of you know what I am doing wrong let me know and I will see if I can fix it. Kind of silly not to be able to Pin right from the post even though I have added the code to my template.
Am I following you on Pinterest? If not, why not? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI can't help you with Pinterest but I have to say I AM addicted.
ReplyDeleteWhilw I was reading your post I heard Wha, wha, wha, like the teacher in a Snoopy (Peanuts) cartoon sounds. That just shows you what I understand about all things techie.
ReplyDeleteRemember. Everything I do on my blog, I do by accident. Pinterest, too. Derp.
All I can say about Pinterest is, I've had 9,000 hits from it for that jello frosting (and it keeps growing), and over six thousand for two other posts! The only thing I know is I hope to come up with more things that catch SOMEONE'S eye:@) I check it out for ideas but don't participate myself.
ReplyDeleteI'm catching up in my google reader and just read your last five posts. Loved them all. Re: the copying of pictures -- you know if anyone wants the picture, all they have to do is "snip" it. As an experiment, go to google images and upload one of your favorite pictures. Then you can see who has "used" it without permission. It's an interesting exercise. Haven't done pinterest yet -- going crazy keeping up now.
ReplyDeleteI don't pin - - - though my daughter and her hubby are addicted to it. (Hehehehe - - -her hubby says he ONLY looks at food, like that's manly so it's ok!)
ReplyDeleteI hear about it all the time, but just decided my cyber world is busy enough with e-mail and blogging.
But - - - I hope you get your pinning issues worked out so you can have fun with it like all the REST of the internet world seems to be doing!
It all sounds like a foreign language to me. I don't do Pinterest. For me it is a time gobbler and I know, very addicting. Maybe someday!

Good luck trying to figure it all out! :) Im even less in the know-how than you, that you already know though! ;)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
I didn't even realize you were on Pinterest...I just followed you. Do you have the little "Pin It" at the top of your computer screen? That is how I pin from a web-site. If not, I can get my daughter to explain how you get the hmtl code....she installed it on my computer. I get a LOT of traffic from Pinterest. Diane
ReplyDeleteI love Pinterest and have been using it for a while. When I first started I was having issues with images not showing up too, but that has stopped. I find the Pin It button for your browser bar never worked right for me so I dropped it. Instead I simply bookmarked my Pinterest page to the bar. I approach Pinning like I do blogging that is, without obligation. So no worries if you don't do either on a regular basis.

I didn't know that you were on Pinterest...at least I think I didn't lol. Will try and find you out there somewhere.
ReplyDeleteIf you can figure out how to take that code off of the blog please let me know. I put it on when you did, and now I can't figure out where it is, and how to get it off...sigh.
Good luck with your pinterest.

Hi Lori - I had no problem pinning an image, from inside a post from your blog. Not sure what you see as your problem. I just click on an image, and then select the Pin It button from my tool bar and that image and any others that are 'pin-able' from that page will display. Select the image you want to pin (make sure that the specific page address is displayed or it will only point back to the main address) and hover over that image - you will see 'Pin It' again, click and it will take you to your boards to select the board you want the image pinned onto. I don't know about code that prevents copying from a site - in reality, anything on the web is accessible to anybody that wants it. Now, I'd like to know where you got that little heart on your side-bar. That's intriguing!
ReplyDeleteI don't no...? I think I pinned your salad in a jar though!
ReplyDeleteLucy, Do you want people to be able to pin from your blog? If not, is this why you added the code so no one could? I deleted all of my Pinterest photos because I felt that Pinterest has conflicting issues re: copyright issues. I asked that all of my photos be removed, but the company has yet to do so, although I submitted the correct information. what is weird is that since then, I have still gained a few more followers! If I have no pics, what in the world are they following?! LOL I now use Clipix, for my own benefit and usage. I keep my boards private, which is something that Pinterest doesn't offer. I don't care about followers. I have also aded code to my template to disallow pinning. I think I'm confused about what you want to be able to do! ~Ethel
