I COULD DO IT. ABSOLUTELY

I am sure everyone is talking about that poor young woman in Oklahoma who was home with her newborn baby when two men were breaking into her home.

We have heard the 911 call where she asks if she can shoot them and is advised she can do what she needs to do to protect her baby once they are in the house. I am just sorry that she didn’t get off a second shot and take care of both of these lowlifes.

When my sister was visiting at Christmas we actually were having this conversation because at one time she considered getting a gun when there were a lot of home invasions happening in the lower mainland. People  advised her against it. People said you probably wouldn’t be able to pull the trigger.

I think people are wrong. I would be able to do it and I know she would too. I would feel no compunction in shooting someone who was breaking into my home and if I was there with a child I would shoot you twice…once for each of us.

I don’t care what the law says. I will protect myself and my family. AT ALL COSTS. Be warned.

What about you? What are the laws where you live?

  1. She is an amazing young woman, calm, and collected during what must have been one of the scariest times in her life. She did the right thing in my eyes. But where were the cops? Why didn't someone else call 911 before, since they said on the news that the burglars were going door to door?

And thank goodness in this case the law saw clearly that she could do this. We hear of so many cases where the homeowner is charged, not the criminal. Those laws need to be changed.

Well, she might feel a hell of a lot safer knowing she had the option!
I know, if someone was going to hurt my kids, I could ABSOLUTELY shoot them. I might not shoot to kill, depending on how I felt at the time, but I could do it.

  3. I live in California, and we have very strict gun laws. Long ago, I was against guns. However, now that I have a family, I would like to have one so that I could protect them and myself if needed.

  4. I agree with you, Lori! I would not hesitate to shoot someone who was threatening my life or the life of anyone else including but not limited to my children. Our constitution allows for us in America the right to bear arms....for sport and protection!

  5. I carry a revolver at most times...and I would shoot...need to be careful not to put yourself in a position to have to shoot...however, a break in is an easy decision...shoot that guilty person...teehee

  6. Myself, I could shoot an intruder who I felt threatened my life or that of my family. That said, I do not own a gun. Why? Because statisically most guns in a home are fired at a family member, or accidently shot by an adolescent, or stolen by a criminal who has broken into your home to obtain a gun. The fear and hysteria that is promoted by the extensive media coverage of violent crime to get ratings and the Right Wing in this country benefits gun and ammo manufacturers and dealers. I believe we would be far safer if we would fight the NRA and get reasonable gun control laws to limit the ammo clips, automatic weapons, and nut cases and criminals who can easily obtain guns from eager sellers. I use security measures and common sense to protect myself and don't feel I need "deadly force" at hand to protect my home or person. If I lived in a high crime area where break-ins were a regular occurance, I might feel differently, but I carefully chose where I would live to be safer. Most of these crimes by strangers are crimes of opportunity and the criminal is usually a drug abuser. Let's spend tax money on police, mental health facilities, and drug treatment centers and stop glorifying violence in our media.

  7. Absolutely shoot them! I just wonder why you have to wait until they are all the way inside the house? As soon as they stick their thieving heads inside my window or door, I'd be shooting. And I have excellent aim!

Most burglaries (and I use the word most quite carefully), they are there for "stuff". Stuff to steal, stuff to sell. I would not shoot someone for my stuff, nor risk going to jail for my stuff. Stuff can be replaced. People - me or them - cannot.

  9. Oh, Lori...I don't even know if I would need a gun if someone were threatening my children. I could take them down with my bare hands! This young lady is brave and I agree, she should have gotten the second ass.

  10. Hi Lori,
Brave topic. I was raised at a gun club every weekend. If the gun was in my hand, I could do it easily. But if I heard a noise, I might freeze before I could get to a gun. My dad always told me, "Shoot em first, then drag em inside." LOL. But I got the message.

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. Good Luck with that, Vicki.

  11. A friend taught me to shoot on a pump-action - I still remember that piece with fondness - and I wasn't a bad shot. I think I could get the hang of it again. They can have my stuff, but they can't touch my family.

  12. Good topic, shoot em down and quickly! >:) My family, eh, no.. Id be pulling that trigger one after the other. That said, its dangerous to have around the house... Then again, if criminals knew we had them, they wouldn't be popping into homes at the rate they are! :)

    Hugs,

  13. If I would get a gun, I would be sure to have handling lessons. When I took the classes for my Firearms acquisition certificate (in order to take possession of hunting guns in a family estate settlement) the police officer told me the reason the average person shouldn't own a gun for protection is that if you're not well-trained and confident even under duress, the gun will likely be turned against you. I always wondered how a properly secured gun stored separately from the ammunition (for our children's safety) would be available for protection, unless the home invaders gave you advance notice of their intentions.

  14. I don't know if I could do it or not. I like to think so. Hubby got me my own handgun recently and I'm planning on getting my carry permit soon. Most of the time, I'm home alone and alone when I go shopping. Some might consider me an easy target, but they could be in for a rude awakening!

  15. I could do it, and would (shoot the intruders)
in order to protect my family. I'm not familiar with the story that you mentioned.
This post has generated a lot of interesting reponses...
    Love,
    Jackie
