There were roughly 200 items in there.
Not the actual photos.
There was a bible printed in the 1600s. There are various items relating to the civil war era including a letter written by Joseph Wood to his sister in 1861 about the Confederate troops taking over San Antonio.

Also in the closet were World War II posters, including some from Canada and the Philippines, and a rare group of Japanese posters, a Union officer's photo album with family papers and images of Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. Photos of the Alamo, local missions and street scenes of San Antonio from the 1920s also were found. They don't know why the closet was closed off but they are going through the library meeting minutes to see if they can find out whose brilliant idea it was to hide this stuff away.

Not my closet. No really it isn't.
One day someone will have to sort through all my special stuff in my closets...and drawers...and shelves...and counters. I wonder if they will view it with the awe and delight that I am sure the workers in San Antonio did when they found their treasure.
This post will also be on my other blog.
You just gotta laugh at stuff like this. But I've heard of this happening before.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like my sewing room:(
ReplyDeleteAn amazing find! As for my stuff, my sons have already uttered the dreaded 'y' word... Yard Sale!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe they hid it knowing the joy it would bring to whoever found it? What an amazing find. When we demo'd our bathroom all we found was some newspaper stuffed behind the linen closet :) Kat
ReplyDeleteWe cut thru a wall in an old house we lived in back in NC and found a Sears catalog from the early 1940s. A 4-piece bedroom suite costs $63! Somewhere in all our moves, it's been lost. Hopefully, I'll find it again someday.
ReplyDeleteWell at least they appreciated what they found, and it had some value.
ReplyDeleteWe are doing our own excavating around here in prep for our move. So far it's nothing more exciting then a load of "junk" and "why did we keep that?"
Wish us luck.

Almost like a time capsule...such fun...
ReplyDeleteI would take a shot of my closet if I could get the door open!!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
I am thankful you did not pull the "actual" pictures from my house and blog. (But mine are even worse.)
