  2. OH! I didn't know it was Happy Canada Day! Have a happy day!
    NOW.
Will you talk to me about your health care. I am all for the SCOTUS decision to have it down here. Many people are saying that Canada doesn't like their health care plan and many people come to the USA for care. Is this true?
If a person needs a hip replacement do they have to wait for months and months?

    etc.

  5. Lynn, you would be hard pressed to find a Canadian that doesn't appreciate their health care. Yes, hip replacements are a long long wait. But doctors here won't do them willy nilly. They only last 10 years, and we don't like unnecessary surgeries, so you wait until it's a last resort.
We use whatever doctors we want. ALL of our hospital care is covered. ALL procedures are covered. Financial recovery is not part of health recovery. I had 2 surgeries in 7 months. In both cases, the surgeries were booked within a couple of weeks of the appt with the surgeon. No waiting there.

  6. My girlfriend saw her orthopedic surgeon after a 3 month wait... and is scheduled for surgery for hip replacement in August - 6 weeks. This is not unusual in our particular area. I do find that some general practitioners make poor referrals - e.g., using the same old surgeon who will have a long wait list, instead of using newer ones with shorter lists. But I (and my physician) can look up any surgeon and find out how long any surgeon's wait list is - very helpful information in health planning.
I like our Canadian attitude that health care is a service no different from education, or transportation, etc. Basic.
