ROCK ME LIKE A HURRICANE

I love rock music. The classic stuff. The sixties stuff. I like the music that has a bit of an edge to it. Not so much the love songs and surfer music. Music with bluesy edges and soul oozing out of every note.

I get my groove on to Eric Burdon, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Santana, Led Zepplin, Grace Slick, Eric Clapton and so many more. Woodstock would have been perfect for me except I was a little too young to attend... and I lived in Canada...and it was almost impossible to get there....and did I mention I was 13? That year for Christmas my brother gave me the Woodstock album and I was so cool. Hendrix, Canned Heat, Arlo Guthrie, Richie Havens I could go on and on. I still have that album. No turntable to play it on but the album is just fine.
A while back I went to see Eric Burdon & the Animals locally. Oh how much fun was that. All us middle aged people mixed in with lots of 20 somethings rockin to the music.
That kind of gritty rock gets into your very being. You hear it and it takes you back in time and you feel so good.

Tonight my BB Guy and our two sons are at a Santana concert in Vegas. It was touch and go if the concert was even going to be on due to the flu going around the band on Wednesday when they had to cancel the concert that night. The first time Santana has canceled in 40 years.
I got the phone call tonight from the concert of course. I could hear the music in the background. That guitar vibrating and wailing. The crowd screaming and I was so jealous. I wanted to be there. They have an awesome table at the concert and are just rocking their brains out.
The BB Guy mentioned something about Shakira and Beyonce sitting with them  (Shakira having just broken up with her boyfriend of many years) but I don't believe him. He is just trying to make me jealous because he knows Johnny Depp is over here with me. Did you see him fresh off the cover of Vanity Fair? Come to momma my little pirate.
Now I know he isn't a rock star but he does play the guitar and this is my fantasy so I can pick him if I want.
So tell me you wild and crazy ladies. What bands did you scream for? What concerts did you spend your hard earned babysitting money on?

  1. well you caught me on a good day for this question. I graduated HSin 1990, so I was all about hte hair bands of the late 80s. There is a midwest band called the Brat Pack that does a crazy 80s show. we have seen it a bunch, but it is always fun, so tonight that is what we did.

I cracked up at Poison, Motley Crue, and the far funnier boys--esp at my husband who is a child of rap through and through.

But its so much fun to relive the old days, no matter how appalling it was.

  5. Ok, Lori, here goes. I am a rock and roll girl too. Didn't listen to soul or pop growing up. Just rock. Here's some favorites on my Ipod. I love Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, The Stones, Big Head Todd, U2, Allman Brothers, Boz Skaggs, Counting Crows (love), Crosby Stills, Nash and Young, Fleetwood Mac, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Marshall Tucker Band, Pearl Jam, Stevie Ray Vaughan, INXS, John Hyatt, John Mayer, Dire Straits, Bob Dylan, Coldplay, The Cure and on and on. As you can see, I like the old stuff and the new stuff. My son is a musician and my daughter lives with one. Jugtown Pirates of San Francisco! I would love it if you could hear them play while you are here. Be sure to turn the radio to 104.5 KFOG at least. They play old and new. If you only like the oldies, turn on The Bone at 103.7
Aren't you sorry you asked? haha ~Delores

  7. Last ones I saw were Jimmy Buffet here in Southampton, and Rod Stewart at Jones Beach. Don't go anymore, too expensive, bills have to be paid!

  8. Did you know that when Johnny Depp was preparing for the Jack Sparrow role, he based quite a bit of it on Keith Richards....?

For me, I was a huge, huge David Bowie fan in HS. I have everything from the Sex Pistols to Pavarotti on my play list. (No rap though...)

I remember listening to Peter Frampton, ACDC, KISS, Ozzie...in the 70's. My big brother was
