PARKING LOT ETIQUETTE

Have you heard about the website that has a downloadable "ticket" to put on the windshields of people who take up two parking spots or park so close to your doors that you can't get in your vehicle. There are other infractions too.
They will also post pictures of the offending vehicles if you send them.
The site is http://www.youparklikeanasshole.com/ (don't give me grief over the name) and they get lots of visitors and lots of hate mail.
I can relate to this as I have gone back to my car in a parking lot to go to work and could barely get in my car. I got dirt all over my white shirt trying to slide in. I was furious...and dirty.
Many years ago when we were in our early 20s,  before the common use of car alarms, we went downtown for dinner with two other couples. We were in two cars. They were old beat up cars.
Low and behold there was a fancy, schmantzy car parked across two spots which left one of us without a spot to park.
The 3 guys got out and literally picked up the car and bounced it over into a single spot and then we parked the grungiest of the two cars next to it and went into the upscale restaurant for dinner.
It must have been quite the shock for the jerk who took up two spots because he is more important than the rest of us, to come back to his car and see it has been moved.
Oh the good old days.

  1. I have to go to this website. I feel like this always happens when I need a space. And if you can squeeze into the space, the next car that comes along thinks that you are the idiot parking too close to the line.

Glad I got that rant out!

  2. How about when you are sitting waiting for a spot with your signal on, and some jerk comes along and pulls in! Happened yesterday! grrrrr!

  3. Your story reminded me of when I was going to BCIT in the 70's. Parking was at a premium, and you would get people parking down the middle of the rows. I watched a few young guys bounce a car like that to move it so that someone that was in a legitimate spot could get out. Gotta check out the website!

  4. They have prep-printed pads of these tickets at Pier 1. I got some last year, and they are FUN! Love the story of moving the car, too bad you didn't have a hidden camera to get the jerk's reaction :) Kat

  5. We did that once also...when we were young...parallel parking and no room at either end...we moved a volkswagon...bounce and push at the same time...fun times...

  6. I will have to check that site out. Handsome Hubby came home last week and said someone who took up 2 spaces left a note on HH's car, complaining that when he parked properly, it blocked Mr. Two Space's driver door. Idiots.

  10. Its not illegal to block access from the road into a private driveway, seriously, so a notice requesting common sense and good manners wouldn't make the slightest impression. Unless you perhaps superglue'd it to the offenders windowshield. Right where they have to see out........

  11. That is awesome! I think we should all carry paintball guns and be allowed to shoot at stupid drivers--going too slow in the fast lane, cutting you off, just being a jerk or moron in general.

  12. Oh you stirred up my blood, Lucy! I leave little notes for people all the time. And while they may toss them away and wonder why someone thinks they did something wrong, it makes me fell better and it certainly helps bring down my blood pressure. I hate it when people park in multiple spaces, illegally take over the handicapped spots, and use the walk-up-pharmacy-only spaces simply because they are close to the store. I like Ali's comment-and I think I'll be putting a little tube of super glue into my car today! ha
