METAMORPHOSIS MONDAY- BOOKCASE

Metamorphosis Monday is hosted by Susan @ Between Naps on The Porch. Stop in to see the creative changes showcased there.

I rarely participate in Metamorphosis Monday because I simply don't have the energy and vision that a lot of these ladies have but today I have something to post about.
I had an old Ikea bookcase that had been in my kids room throughout the years. It was probably the only blue thing in my house. Once they were grown it sat in my guest room between two twin beds looking pretty grim.

I had some incentive to get it out of there because my great-niece will be living with us for a semester or more come January. I think she will need a dresser more than a bookcase.
Of course I thought of Kammy when it was time to paint it. Hmmm maybe a bit of black? Of course.
It was quick and simple to paint. The woman at Home Depot sold me a paint that doesn't need a primer as it adheres itself. Ya, right. Not so much. It ended up with a plastic feel but only in some spots where it remained shiny. In the other areas it showed brush strokes. The worst downside is that the paint doesn't adhere properly at all and just peeled off where I bumped it.  I was going to put crown molding around the top but realized I wanted it tight to the wall so that plan was squashed.

Oh well it is in my dining room now to hold some extra pieces. I will be jazzing it up a bit more but there it is for now with a few items on it. I keep a clear saucer over top of my wine decanter to keep dust out. You would think with all the wine I drink there wouldn't be time for dust to collect but you would be wrong.
Thanks for the visit. Leave a comment, I would love to hear from you.

  2. Very good. I keep looking at my dining room chairs and seeing they need a metamorphosis - just a thought right now though.

  6. It looks great! I'm a huge fan of black (and white) right now.

Stop over to my website linensandlaurel dot com and look down the left to the gimp, lip cord and edgings category. There are lots of pics of gimp there. I used the dark brown.

  12. I love it--it looks tons better!!! Sorry about the paint not working well!! I have had that happen at times in my home...I think mine was caused by oil based enamel paint being used in the old days. If I tried a primer without oil it just didn't work!

  13. Lori, Your bookcase looks pretty darn good painted black. Do you really see all those problems with the paint job? You know we always know where our little mistakes are in our projects- but no one else would ever see them unless we pointed them out. But if it's a paint problem, you should go back to the paint store. Is there a guarantee w/the paint? Is it a national brand? Hope you can get this rectified if you choose to pursue it.
Oh, have a little more of that red wine, it's good for your health.
    hugs, Ethel

  15. You "matured" your bookcase. And that wine decanter is looking empty and lonely. Thanks for visiting my place. TK

  17. Atta girl Lori.
Who ever sold you the paint should be shot! lol
Always prime no matter what. I have learned my lesson in that subject many times.
It looks great. Put wine in that carafe or coloured water. I use my crystal carafes for Listerine, the original and the blue one.
    Happy Tuesday.
