THE GARDENER'S CREED

  • I want it
  • I want it all
  • I want it now
  • If it will not grow in my zone or is prohibitively expensive I want it most of all
  • I am perfectly willing to forgo any necessity of life such as food in order to have it
  • I recognize my horticultural dependency and I recognize your horticultural dependency
  • I will aid and abet your dependency as long as you will mine and this will make us infinately happy
  • All money saved by virtue of comparison shopping equals found money and therefore is not counted as spending
  • If everyone else has it I too must have it
  • If I have planted everything that I have already purchased I am entitled to buy more plants
  • At this point it is customary to recite your Visa number from memory.

  2. Non gardener's creed: "Oh, that looks so nice in YOUR yard."

  3. "But you still have things you haven't planted yet." I keep telling him it doesn't matter. I am a garden artist and it's like waiting for that one missing tube of paint to complete the scene. I don't give a hoot about expensive shoes and fancy clothes, so I actually save us money. He doesn't buy it, but I sure do! Is that your picture of that Tiarella Lucy? I used to have oodles of them.

  4. Yes, Lucy it is my Tiarella. I have a little bit of everything hence the Gardener's Creed. I am not a clothes or shoe hound either. I would rather go out for dinner or something.

  5. See that? I am sure I must be your sister that was given away at birth. Isn't likely because of anyone, you would know, right? Okay maybe in a past life or something. I just think it's strange that we were both named Lucy.

  6. Hey! You stole my Garden List! :-)

Oh geez -- I want EVERYTHING in my garden, and this year I just don't have the budget to get much of anything! Oh well -- I'm trying a few things from seeds, we'll see how that works.

I'm going to hop on the perennial sales in the fall, though... saving up for that!

So the pepper gets the big holes? Makes sense. And Howard is a good and patient man, but I'm not too sure even he will chase flying spray paint around the yard... great idea, though!

  7. You know..the first step is to admit you have a problem....
The second step is get outta my way as I'm a sucker for anything at a garden center. They could sell radiation & I'd probably buy it.

  8. Yup....that sounds like me! This year I am trying to curb myself and have only purchased some herbs....not one perennial....yet.

  9. Ouch, this hits close to home! And this year, even if I had any discipline, it wouldn't work, because my older daughter has caught the gardening bug, so I might as well not even make an effort to restrain myself....
